I am running for the Assembly in District 6. I was born in Chicago to working parents who struggled to support our family. My father was a milkman and Teamster and my Mother was a secretary. Being Union members was important to our family and we understood the protections unions provided for their members.
My parents realized early that real estate was a viable way to improve their financial picture. They began buying and remodeling houses in the evenings and weekends. I saw how it helped us gain a leg up. Although helping them was not exactly my idea of fun, I am grateful for the experience and know it inspired me to become a real estate agent/investor.
My family moved to San Carlos in the early 1960's and I got my early education in the public schools. I moved to Humboldt State to go to college but returned to San Carlos to get married and start my family. I returned to school at San Diego State University, juggling school and an infant son, and obtained my bachelor's degree in Advertising and Journalism when he started kindergarten. I understand the stress and economic struggles faced by both two-parent and single-parent families. I support access to universal pre-K, affordable high-quality day care, and family/medical leave. These are essential safety net programs to support young working families.
In 2008, I married my partner and we moved to Rocklin after a long business career in the Silicon Valley. I picked this community because it enjoys the best of many worlds-high quality, well-funded schools, a robust business environment, safe neighborhoods, community resources, strong local governments and most importantly, good people who care about their families and friends while preserving the quality of life and the environment. These are important values to me and we are proud to call Rocklin home along with our rescued pets Cleo, Natasha, and Sushi.
Throughout my life, I have been committed to giving back to my community. My community work has included Habitat for Humanity, Save the Bay, Sierra Club, the SPCA, Second Harvest Food Bank, American Cancer Society, serving as a long time board member of the Sunburst Project - a camp for kids with HIV/AIDS, and the ALS Foundation in memory of my mother who died from the disease.
As a small business owner and community organizer, I have spent a lot of time with constituents in this community. I have learned that Assembly District 6 is a diverse community comprised of people with a broad cross section of interests and concerns. It needs a representative that will lead by listening and understanding how to translate the needs of the district into meaningful public policies. It is time for a leader in Sacramento that fights for us!
I am running for Assembly District 6 and I hope you will join me in winning this district.
