Sergio Lopez is a small business owner and public policy professional who advises corporate executives, nonprofits, and civic organizations. Raised in the Campbell community, he is the son of two immigrants and, after attending public schools his whole life, was the first in his extended family to graduate from college.
Over more than a decade, he has worked at all levels of government, from local politics to the White House. He served as Political Director on a gubernatorial race and drafted policy for a presidential campaign. His policy work for Gavin Newsom's campaign for Governor on innovation, automation, and California's economy helped lead to the creation of the state's Future of Work Commission. Currently, he serves as an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party, representing Campbell at the state level.
Previously, Sergio was National Organizing Director for Rise, which works to pass a Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights in all 50 states. Under his leadership, Rise became the most successful legislative advocacy organization in modern history, passing bills in around a dozen states, including California's AB 1312. His work reforming his college’s sexual assault policies was covered by the New York Times and Huffington Post, and he has been profiled by USA Today, Telemundo, and NBC Bay Area. An author and historian, he has written two original book-length manuscripts on history and politics, and his writing has been published in the Sacramento Bee, Teen Vogue, and America magazine.
Sergio serves on the board of the Campbell Historical Museum & Ainsley House Foundation, volunteers with Campbell West Valley Rotary Corps, and, as a small business owner, is a member of the Campbell Chamber of Commerce.
A proud California and Campbell resident, he runs marathons and trains along the Los Gatos-Campbell Creek Trail with his rescue dog Pecos, while working on running a long distance race in all 58 counties in the state.
