Peter Landsberger has lived in Los Altos since 1978, the year he was appointed Foothill-De Anza’s first General Counsel. Over time his duties expanded and in 1983 he was promoted to Vice Chancellor of the district, serving as the Chancellor’s chief deputy and executive in charge of all district office operations.
During his thirty-year career in the community colleges, Peter held several executive posts, including President of the College of San Mateo, Senior Vice Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District and, for a year and a half, Interim Chancellor of the Los Angeles District. In 2007, the Chancellor of the California Community College system appointed Peter as the State’s Special Trustee in charge of the Compton Community College District after Compton College lost its accreditation. He served in that capacity through 2010.
Since 1999, Peter has been a member of the Board of Directors of UNITE-LA, an education focused nonprofit organization. UNITE-LA collaborates with schools, government agencies and other non-profits to support the development of highly effective schools, promotes business-education partnerships, and administers programs to expand college access to underserved youth in the Los Angeles area. He also serves on the board of directors of the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View, and the Foothill-De Anza Foundation.
Peter received his A.A. degree from Santa Monica College and his J.D. and A.B. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He has done post-graduate work at both the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
