Before being elected to Congress, Representative Norma Torres worked for over 17 years as a 911 dispatcher for the Los Angeles Police Department, where she served as a shop steward for AFSCME Local 3090. Norma went on to win a seat on the Pomona City Council and was soon after elected Mayor. From there, she served in the State Assembly and State Senate where she implemented the Affordable Care Act and secured $2 billion in federal funds for the “Keep Your Home California” program--helping 64,000 families keep their homes during the foreclosure crisis.

As the Congresswoman representing California’s 35th District since 2014, Norma has been an advocate for working families of the Inland Empire. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has secured over $3 billion in federal relief funding for the region. Most recently, she has led the effort to invest in our infrastructure, expand the Child Tax Credit, combat voter suppression, and revitalize public transportation.

A member of the House Appropriations and Rules Committees, Norma is focused on bolstering America's working-class. Her top priorities are to provide our families with good-paying jobs, deliver more affordable housing in our communities, protect Medicare and Social Security from privatization, and finally achieve universal health care. An immigrant from Guatemala, Norma is the sole Central-American serving in Congress. 

“Smile…it’s Cargile!” I am the Family Man. My objective, and overwhelming motivation in this political pursuit, is protecting, preserving and providing for our families. As a husband and a father with many good friends, I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to be a Representative for some of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met. Through the years I have been a coach, a crossing guard for my kids, a Booster President, Ways and Means Chairman and a deacon at my church. Professionally, I have been a writer, an actor, a director, a producer, an editor and a marketing director. Additionally, I helped run a small indie music label and managed a rock band from Australia and somewhere in the middle of all that, I helped handle the private label manufacturing for The Power Rangers food products. Prior to my move to California in 1991, I had a short stint as a Quartermaster Army Officer and then went Individual Ready Reserve after Desert Storm. My family has a long history with the US Army and I thought it would be exciting to try something new…Hollywood. I was not disappointed. 

Southern California is where I met my beautiful wife, Nan, and where we’ve raised our two kids. I understand that to whom much is given, much is required. And from that is born my desire to serve the people and businesses of the 35th Congressional District of California. This is not about ME, it’s about YOU… my neighbors! At a time of unprecedented assault on our freedoms, our traditions and our Constitution, we need representatives willing to stand in the gap on behalf of the American people. Our citizens deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and unwavering support. I plan on doing just that!

As an Army veteran, businessman, filmmaker, father, and a Christian, I see great potential for the communities of our district.

But at a time when our educators have abandoned our children, our doctors have violated their oaths and our political leadership are shredding our Constitutional Rights on a daily basis, we need someone to stand against this Communist onslaught. 

We need an advocate to protect our families, our jobs and our communities. We just want to go back to our jobs and schools without restrictions. We want our lives to return to normal!  

The cost of our gas is the highest in history, our store shelves are increasingly bare, homelessness, drugs and crime plague our neighborhoods. Our children have lost precious classroom time, and many small businesses have closed because of mistaken COVID policies. 

We need a representative who will support law enforcement and make our District safe and prosperous again. We need a representative who understands our problems and has solutions for them. 

This district is where my wife and I have raised our kids This is our home. We have invested our lives here. Our church family is here. I want all of us to feel safe and secure. Our God given rights are not negotiable. This is the time for choosing. Will it be freedom and opportunity or fear and hate?
