About this office
This contest is to serve from January 2023 to January 2025. District boundaries have changed due to the 2020 Census.
New, redistricted boundaries are shown on the Map of San Diego County State Assembly Districts as of 2021, provided by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. (To get rid of the splash screen there, click "OK" in the lower right corner)
~~~~~
Every 10 years, after the federal government publishes updated census information, California must redraw the boundaries of its Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly and State Board of Equalization districts, so that the districts correctly reflect the state’s population.
The 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission was made up of five Republicans, five Democrats, and 4 not affiliated with either of those two parties. The Commission was charged to draw the district lines in conformity with strict, nonpartisan rules designed to create districts of relatively equal population that would provide fair representation for all Californians.
Questions & Answers
Questions from League of Women Voters of California (4)
I support policies that strengthen the programs and services that protect our most vulnerable residents. I am committed to reducing homelessness by treating the root causes of the crisis, and will work to ensure that California’s low-income seniors and families have access to the services and support they need.
I support expanding Career Technical education programs because they are incredibly important to expand economic opportunities for students and youth as an alternative to a traditional Bachelor’s degree. When voting for the 2020-2021 budget, I fought to make sure to protect education, childcare, and after school program funding, including making sure that Career Technical Education services were fully funded.
I recently authored AB1153, a bill establishing a Cooperative Education Reskilling and Training Pilot Program at MiraCosta Community College, establishing a pilot program of 11 not-for-credit work skill training courses that can completed in 3-6 months, and designed to be taken in conjunction with or before enrollment in for-credit work skill training courses.
Many similar programs exist throughout California’s community college system, community centers, local unions, and both San Diego County and City have recently expanded partnerships with businesses and non-profit organizations for student and youth career training and development. I support increasing access to and education about Career Technical Education in public schools for caregivers and students, such as pre-apprenticeship programs and career exploration programs to give students as much information as possible to make an informed decision for their futures.
As Chair of the Select Committee on Sea Level Rise, and the California Economy and the Assistant Majority Leader for Policy and Research, I see my role as a legislative leader to bolster the state’s contribution to global climate efforts, including investing in public transportation infrastructure, renewable energy technologies, and ending our reliance on fossil fuels as energy.
I also support carbon fee and dividend, cap and trade, regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and a ban on fracking.
Political Philosophy
Dan is pro-business and his top issues are the cost of living, reducing crime and homelessness and ending the covid-19 state of emergency in California. This is Dan's first run for elected office, and he believes in a small government approach to politics. Government exists to serve the people, and the best way it can do that is to let them make their own decisions. In cases where public safety is at risk, the government does have an obligation to protect its citizens while maintaining an appropriate level of freedom.
