Juan Álvarez was elected to represent Area 2 of the Anaheim Elementary School district in 2018. He resides in Anaheim with his wife and two children. Juan knows the value of education and is able to demonstrate his passion for education and teaching as a bilingual junior high math teacher. Juan attributes his understanding of the value of hard work to his parents, who both immigrated from Michoacán, Mexico in the late 1970’s. His father, a custodial worker and his mother, a housekeeper, always demonstrated the value of hard work, dependability, and drive to Juan and his four siblings. From a young age, Juan learned about their struggle and would often accompany his father to his weekend jobs where he learned the transferable employment skills that serve him to this day: planning, communication, responsibility, trustworthiness, dependability, and initiative. Juan’s parents always supported his goals of pursuing higher education. Juan pursued his dreams of higher education at California State University, Fullerton.

Once accepted, he became the first in his family to attend college and obtain a Bachelor’s degree. Proving his commitment to education, Juan followed his Bachelor’s degree with a Master’s degree obtained at California State University, Long Beach. Juan was the first person in his family, immediate and extended, to have two degrees. He never lost sight of his roots as a 1st generation Mexican-American. This motivated him to continue his education and obtain a Bilingual Authorization in Spanish on his teaching credential. He often recalls the struggle that his parents went through to ensure that he and his siblings were able to obtain an education and prove that Latino immigrants were capable of much more than they are given credit for.

Juan is also active in community organizing. He is a founding member of SOMOS Anaheim, a community based organization that received a distinction from the OC Human Relations for their part in restoring peace and uniting the community after civil unrest in 2012. Additionally, Juan and SOMOS, in collaboration with the City of Anaheim, created and implemented the city’s first Day of the Dead festival, “Día de los Muertos: A night of Community and Culture”. His passion for education and literacy led Juan to found a nonprofit organization, Operation L.E.E. (Literacy Engaging Everyone). With the help of community members and local students, Juan led an effort to create book stations, found citywide, wherein residents can take and/or leave books, increasing access to literature in neighborhoods with few educational resources. Juan just recently ended a term on the City of Anaheim’s Cultural & Heritage Commission where he worked on promoting art and culture within the city.

Juan is running under a true progressive Democratic platform grounded in justice and equality.

Dr. Jose F. Moreno was re-elected to the City Council in November 2018 representing District 3 in north-central Anaheim. He served as mayor pro tem during 2018.

Moreno was first elected for a two-year term on the City Council in November 2016. Before joining the Council, Moreno served two terms on the Anaheim City School District Board of Education from 2006 to 2014.

He strives to ensure local government works for everyday residents in his district and across the city.

In 2017, Moreno led efforts to adopt a “sunshine ordinance” that has resulted in stronger, more responsive and accountable local government. That same year, he also led efforts for Anaheim to become a welcoming city that embraces the economic and cultural contributions of immigrants and newcomers alike.

Moreno is an associate professor in the Department of Chicano & Latino Studies at California State University, Long Beach, where he focuses on Latino education and policy studies.

He received his bachelor’s in social ecology with an emphasis on criminology and human behavior from the University of California, Irvine.

Moreno earned his master’s and doctorate in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University, where he co-chaired the editorial board of the Harvard Educational Review.

He is president of Los Amigos of Orange County, a community group serving people and communities in need. He previously served on the boards of Orange County Community Housing Corp., which provides housing and education to low-income families, and Orange County Communities for Responsible Development, which works to promote participation in local government.

The youngest son of an immigrant family, Moreno grew up in Oxnard, Calif. He and wife Lorena, a school principal, have lived in Anaheim for more than a decade. They have four daughters, three of them in Anaheim public schools and one attending the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Moreno and his wife, a middle school principal, have four beautiful, intelligent and active daughters. 3 of their girls are enrolled in Anaheim public schools with their oldest having recently graduated from Anaheim High School now attending UCLA. The Moreno family has lived in Anaheim for over 15 years and are among the founding parents of the first Dual Language Immersion Program in Anaheim. Dr.Moreno is a proud Girl Scout Dad who enjoys watching his daughters play in school athletics programs, dance and other community activities and events.

I believe strongly that a government closest to its people is the strongest form of government. I subscribe to a political philosophy that is centered on people and not profits.  I believe in campaign finance transparency and that elected officials should not be allowed to vote on on policies / laws for 12 months that directly benefit their campaign donors. I believe that public tax dollars should be spent on direct public services and oppose corporate tax-subsidies and giveways without a vote of the people--if the people voted for a tax they should be allowed to vote whether those tax dollars should be given away to corporate interests. I believe in transparent accountability of municipal government including police departments. I believe that all people have a human right to a quality education, quality health care, quality housing, and labor protections for workers. I believe that the role of government is to uplift the talents and possibilities of all people, encouraging and supporting a entreprenurial spirit centerd on building individual AND community aspirations--corporations are NOT people--people are people. And, as an immigrant child, we ALL deserve to be valued for our collective humanity & dreams and not for the happenstance of birthplace.

Trabaje como recamarera por ocho años en Disneyland, siempre tratando de avanzar, y desde entonces me involucre con mi union para asegurarme se hiciera justicia en mi lugar de trabajo y que se nos tratara con dignidad y respeto. Estoy convencida de que el éxito viene de la disciplina diaria y que los sueños se pueden hacer realidad. No es cuesti0on de suerte. Si no de organizarse. Also organizing coworkers at Disneyland and community. In June 2018,  I'm introduced Vermont Senador Bernie  Sanders during his visit to speak to Disneyland workers at Anaheim

As the only candidate representing Garden Grove Democrats on the AD 69 Central Committee ballot, I would be honored to receive your vote. I was born and raised in Garden Grove and attended Garden Grove Unified School District's public schools. My family is from Michoacan, Mexico, and came to America with the same big dreams as many of our parents and ancestors did. I'm the first in my family to graduate from college. When I returned to Garden Grove after receiving my undergraduate degree from CSU, Northridge, I became involved in local politics, and have been working towards getting Democrats elected ever since.

As a former executive director and current board member of the Democratic Foundation of Orange County, I've worked to raise funds for voter registration projects and support the election of Democrats across the county.

I'm a proud member of the Orange County Young Democrats^. At 28 years old, I bring the young, female energy and perspective that is urgently needed in the structure of the party. We need leaders with the gumption to speak truth to power. I have that gumption.

9 to 5, I work in a law firm—my every other hour is spent supporting Democrats and exploring the great outdoors. My personal passion is for environmental justice and conservation. As a member of the Central Committee, I hope to use this passion to continue to further the Democratic Party's environmental goals and continue being an agent for change.

I want to ensure that there is a seat for members of my community at the DPOC table. My neighbors deserve representation in the committee that is local, vocal, and present.

My name is Martin G. Lopez was born in Mexico, the oldest of 8 children and the son of a room attendant, I learned at a young age to work hard to pursue my dreams. I immigrated to the United States at the age of 22.  I worked at a Hotel for 12 years where I started serving as a Union steward with UNITE HERE Local 11. With the Union I have served in different capacities; as executive board member, recording and secretary treasurer, political lead and community organizer.

I am currently serving as a commissioner with the Anaheim Workforce Development Board.  In 2012 I was appointed to served on the Anaheim Citizens Advisory Committee on District Elections and Community Engagement.  In fact, I helped lead a coalition of hotel and food service workers, community, and grassroots activists that won the historic district election in Anaheim in 2014. 

Along with other allies, I fought and continue to fight against AIRBNB and short-term rentals in my community and Anaheim residential neighborhoods. 

In January 2017, I was elected as a delegate to the 69^th Assembly for the Democratic Party, which I am still proudly serving.
