Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de The League of Women Voters San Diego (LWVSD) and the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego (LWVNCSD) (3)

If elected, how much time and energy will you be able to devote to this volunteer position over the next four years, given your other personal and professional obligations?
Respuesta de Megan Ley:

Balancing personal, professional, and political obligations is never easy, but it is doable. Last year when I was fully immersed in local politics, I was working a fulltime job as well as a parttime caregiver for my 103-year-old grandmother who was on hospice. While balancing all of that was difficult, it was possible by knowing my limits and planning ahead. With that being said, I am 110% dedicated to serving as a Central Committee member and will devote whatever time and energy is required of me to advance progressive policy.

What is the most significant challenge facing this party in the next decade, and if you are elected, how will you help the party prepare to meet it?
Respuesta de Megan Ley:

Housing/homelessness and the environment are two local-level issues that our county party is currently facing. I believe the best way to address these issues is by advocating for policies like Housing for All and the Green New Deal.

What public figures, past and present, do you believe have given the most postive examples of what this party stands for? Please explain your reasons for thinking so.
Respuesta de Megan Ley:

Before I answer this, I want to say that I've been a liberal since before I could vote and I've been a Democrat since I was old enough to vote. With that being said, I believe Bernie Sanders is an ideal Democrat despite being the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history. Senator Sanders' policies are similar to that of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whose New Deal promoted the “golden age” of American labor. While I know some may disagree with my opinion due to Senator Sanders formerly being an Independent, I like to remind them "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

Explained: The Importance of Central Committee — February 27, 2020 Megan Ley for Central Comittee

Central Committee decides which candidates and ballot measures will get the endorsement of our party (and have access to party resources)! Because of this, one of the best ways to help progressive candidates who are seeking office is to make sure their Central Committee members share the same values.
