My name is Cindy Ranii, and I currently serve as a Santa Cruz City Schools Board Member. I was appointed by the Board in October to a seat vacated by Alisun Thompson who moved out of the area. I'm a retired educator with 25 years of experience working with diverse communities as a teacher, principal, and superintendent.
My most recent position was Superintendent of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District where I served for ten years. I have decided to run for election for a four-year term so that I can continue to apply my experience and distinctive perspectives to providing our students with a world-class education. All students deserve the opportunity to maximize their potential.
Excellence, Equity and Fiscal Responsibility have always guided my public service. I am fair-minded, thoughtful, a good listener, a life-long learner, problem-solver and bridge builder. I highly value mutual respect and dignity for all. An immediate challenge for the District is to maintain a focus on instructional excellence for all students while balancing the challenges of implementing the bond-funded facilities plan. I think that my experience has been of significant value in this area and of critical importance moving forward.
My educational background includes degrees from UC Berkeley and the University of Pennsylvania in South Asia Language and Area Studies with a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. I am a wheelchair table tennis player with a bronze medal from the Parapan American Games. I helped to establish the Santa Cruz Ping Pong Club which is now enjoyed by more than 50 members including those with physical challenges.
My partner Shelly James and I have four children and 12 grandchildren. We want for each of our grandkids what we want for every child in our District: safe, well-run schools with great and caring teachers and staff, an engaging learning environment, and excellent, up-to-date curriculum and instruction. I would be honored by your vote. Cindyforschoolboard@gmail.com. Thank you.
