My fiends and neighbors call me Diamond Bar Bob because I’m always bragging on my home town of 32 year. But, now I’m very concerned because our once-vibrant future is threatened by the unfettered growth of housing and the high vacancy rates in our retail centers. This did not happen over night, and it is a very slippery slope from which to recover.
Retail businesses are far more than a convenience, because without them, a city has no long-term tax base. Ideally, 80% of a city's taxes are borne by those businesses, while in turn, they consume a mere fraction of its essential public services. Without the business contribution, either services are cut or the residents must pick up the slack. Despite the illusion of wealth from our lavish spending going on at the moment, this city has dozens of shuttered buildings due to a hostile business environment and lack of commitment to economic growth.
We we should not be thinking of turning any more open space into homes until we get our tax base in order and our fiscal future secured.
I am not a career politician. Instead, I am a business executive who has spent my career creating jobs and regional economic stimulation. I spent the last 22-years as a liaison between the business sector, government agencies, and the K-thru-college education system.
An innovator, entrepreneur, and collaborator, I contributed directly to the vibrant business climates for the 260,000 residents of Chino, Chino Hills, Eastvale, Pomona and Norco over the last few years. I invite you to Google my name for highlights.
