Biografía

Chris Jackson was born in Oakland and went to Oakland schools. His mom, coming from Pine Buff Arkansas at the age of 17, gave 32 years of service to the phone company in downtown Oakland. As a kid, Chris spent his after schools and summers at Mosswood Park through Oakland's Park and Recreation department. At Mosswood Park Chris was given the opportunity to take woodshop classes, art, music and crafts, theater and creative writing classes. The experience at Mosswood Park helps shape his ideas supporting creative arts to encourage the artist spirit our kids. This also helped Chris learn the importance of vocational classes to ensure our students can secure living wage employment and to prevent the further gentrification of our community.

Chris knows that we need free, universal preschool, a key factor that helps prevent gaps in learning in kids from underserved communities.

As a member of the Community College Board, Chris Jackson served as Vice President and chair the Budget Committee. As the budget committee chair, Chris Jackson ensured that in the face of historic budget cuts, our resources remained in our classrooms and supporting our students by investing in career and technical education, GED programs and student support services such as EOPS.

Chris lives in the Toler Heights neighborhood of District 7 with his wife and their two children. Their oldest child just started kindergarten in Oakland public schools.
