My Top 3 Priorities
- Safe re-opening of our campuses. We all want students back on campus. I believe in a safe, measured, and progressive roll out toward in-person learning with provisions for students who need or want to continue virtual learning.
- Fair, balanced, and transparent communication. I believe the only way our community can successfully achieve our collective goals is through sharing resources, exchanging information, and working together through clear channels of communication.
- Supporting students needs. I believe that regardless of learning platforms, we must pay careful attention to our student’s needs. Mental health and social equality must be robustly addressed as both are critical aspects of academic success.

Biography
A UCLA graduate and resident of La Costa for over 16 years, I am running for School Board out of an enormous sense of gratitude. My in-laws moved to San Diego in the early '70s and have owned and operated Round Table Pizza Encinitas for the past 45 years. My husband Robert, an Emergency Physician, grew up and attended local schools. After completing his medical training, he and I felt extremely lucky to be able to move back to his hometown so our three young children could benefit from the same award-winning education. Our son, Sean (22), and two daughters, Carolyn (21) and Allison (19), all recently graduated from EUSD and SDUHSD schools: El Camino Creek Elementary, Oak Crest Middle, and La Costa Canyon High School. More than just educating my children, teachers, administrators, and local leaders have guided them down the path of becoming independent, productive, and compassionate adults. As a PTA President and Board Member, LCC Foundation Board Member, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Board Chairman, National Healthcare Advocate, and Court Appointed Special Advocate for Voices for Children, I have the skills and experience to bring all members of our community together in order to provide the emotional and academic resources our students will need to succeed, especially given the challenges of COVID-19. With collaboration and transparency, I look forward to serving the district that has given three generations of my family so much. I hope to earn your vote on November 3rd. With experience, compassion, and dedication… The Future Is Young.

Questions & Answers
Questions from League of Women Voters San Diego and League of Women Voters North County San Diego (1)
The three biggest challenges our community faces are the same three priorities I hope to tackle: Reopening, Communication, and Supporting Students. Ideally these three issues should be addressed simultaneously.
Reopening: We all agree that it is important to get our students back on campus for in-person learning. However, knowing the complexity of forming cohorts for large public schools with different demographics and funding sources than private schools, I would like to start with giving our students the peer interactions they need by working towards brining them back onto campus through clubs and other extracurricular activities. Social connections are vital aspects of their academic success and emotional well-being. Those concepts must always go hand in hand.
Communication: Especially as we experience one of the most unusual school years in recent history with our children live-streaming their classes from their bedrooms or kitchen tables after seven months of quarantining due to COVID-19 restrictions, communication has never been more important. With a degree in English from UCLA, I am an effective communicator with a dedicated history of transparency and commitment to students. As the Board Chairman of a national philanthropy, a Court Appointed Special Advocate, and an experienced healthcare advocate, I understand the value of open, objective and productive dialogue between all members of a community. From everything from championing a wide range of academic programs inside the classrooms all the way to protecting children’s health in Washington D.C., I intend to use that same passion and voice for ALL our students and help our district work towards more clear, consistent modes of communication. As a candidate, I have communicated accurate facts, along with my personal opinions on a variety of issues through emails, social media, and on-line forums. My message in all has been the same: I am committed to honest, positive, and respectful dialogue that welcomes all perspectives. I firmly believe that is the only way we can best figure out our shared goals and work together toward supporting our children.
Supporting Students: We can’t wait until we reopen schools to address the emotional, physical, and academic hardships our students are undoubtedly experiencing. Mental health, academic pressures, social media, and substance abuse were issues before COVID and they will certainly be magnified in its aftermath. While I applaud recent community efforts to address mental health, I hope to continue these important conversations (virtually if necessary) and using my voice as a Trustee to focus our attention on making sure that the emotional needs of our students (as well as all members of our SDUHSD community) are not only heard, but clearly acknowledged. Along similar lines of thought, I believe in the ability for all students to learn and thrive in a safe, secure, and inclusive environment. I stand in strong support of equality and firmly reject acts of hate, bias, or discrimination of any kind. I have already started conversations in our community about ways to support diversity and will amplify them if elected as Trustee.

My Top 3 Priorities
- SDUHSD needs to safely reopen our schools. The board must ask Superintendent Haley to present options for at home/hybrid learning as well as in-person learning that follows all safety guidelines.
- Transparency in Decision Making. No more secret meetings with the teachers union and no more hidden contracts.
- Fiscal Accountability. Every dollar spent must be prioritized for student success in order to impact student’s educational achievement TODAY to support their life and career choices for the future.

Biography
I was born in Solana Beach and have lived in Encinitas with my husband since 1998. We are raising two children who went through Encinitas Union schools and are now enrolled in the San Dieguito Union school district. We can’t wait to get back on campus for SAFE IN-PERSON learning again!
I have been honored to be on the Encinitas school board for the past 4 years. This experience has taught me a great deal about school finance, collective bargaining, vetting curriculum and addressing the needs of all types of learners. I have a Masters in Governance certification and completed school funding courses through the San Diego Taxpayers Association. I am a proven and informed board member.
My background in private industry and as an entrepreneur has taught me the importance of accountability, integrity, transparency, and responsiveness to my clients and team members. As constituents, YOU are my clients and I bring this mindset to my current elected position every day while serving as YOUR voice on the School Board and will continue to do so if elected to the San Dieguito school board.
In addition to my work and family life, we are heavily engaged in the local community. We support many worthy causes including helping disadvantaged youths, supporting our military and their spouses, fostering animals and being active with the local YMCA.
Political Beliefs
Political Philosophy
My record speaks for itself. For the past 4 years, as an active member of the Encinitas Union School District board, I have maintained my pledge to be fully transparent and available to you. My votes have always been consistent with the values and educational priorities of our community.
As YOUR elected representative, I am YOUR voice. The dollars received and spent in our school districts are your tax collected funds and should be spent according to YOUR priorities for student success.
