Leadership We Can Trust. Justin Sha is running for Mayor to bring about a new generation of leadership in Fremont: one that listens, has open dialogue within the community, and works proactively to solve problems we all face. While each city is mandated to develop housing, it is incumbent upon our leadership to decide whether we develop in a smart way, or whether we allow developers to have their way. Sha looks to implement smart growth strategies such as mixed-use and transit-oriented development to increase the supply of affordable and middle-level housing that can allow Fremont residents to live in the City they call home, while also creating retail space for small businesses and cutting down on traffic. Justin Sha will take into fundamental consideration traffic impacts for any future develpment.
Data-Driven COVID-19 Recovery. Sha wants to leverage his management and technology background to create a means for permanent information flow for residents, including a COVID-19 app that empowers residents to make informed decisions. The app would make COVID-19 rates searchable by ZIP code, show open businesses, create an ability to book a COVID-19 test, allow for contact tracing, and provide guidance for residents that is accessibile and intuitive. Justin Sha will also look into implementing is an ordinance that requires high-foot-traffic stores like Costco to close down and deep clean if an employee tests positive for COVID-19, and will only be allowed to re-open after such cleaning is complete.
Public Safety for All Residents. We have seen an increase in carjackings as well as residential and commercial break-ins over the past few years. Commercial burglaries and car break-ins have particularly spiked during the past year. Many immigrant communities feel like racial targets of these crimes, and we need to do more to address this. After all, what good is it to rank high on a “safe city” list if our residents, especially in minority communities, do not feel safe? In June, we had an opportunity to make Fremont a safer city and we missed it. Fremont has not been fair to its police officers; year after year, we have added more responsibilities onto their plate. As a start, we need to make sure public health professionals respond to homelessness calls and public health calls. This will help de-escalate situations, and will allow FPD to focus more time and resources to combat the aforementioned increases in crime.
Environment & the Economy. Justin Sha is also a proponent of revitalizing our local economy through a green-technology powered economic recovery program. Specifically, Sha believes that we need to be swift and proactive in working against the effects of climate change. As we have seen with the recent wildfires, our climate crisis is already here, and it is having real impacts on our communities. Sha wants to create a permanent data-information pipeline that allows residents to receive push notifications in times of crisis, and he will mandate new requirements for developers to incorporate more green technology. He will look into innovative ideas that leverages emerging technologies (IoT) to improve the day-to-day experiences of existing residents, while reducing our carbon footprint.
Overall, Justin Sha is running for Mayor to create a Fremont that works for ALL residents, in regards to housing affordability, public safety, traffic congestion, our COVID-19 response, and many other issues. We need transparency and community involvement in our decision-making, and new leadership is required to actualize these needs.
Justin Sha is the clean-money grassroots candidate. Justin Sha is the candidate who has taken a pledge to not accept contributions from developers, corporations, or special money interests.
