Biography
Dr. Sherry Hu is a first-generation immigrant raised by parents that taught her the values of family, education, and community service from an early age.
Twenty years ago, Dr. Sherry came to the United States to pursue her PhD in Architectural Engineering from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln after earning her MS in Architectural Engineering and BS in Environmental Engineering and Business.
Dr. Sherry then spent time in education, teaching as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. There, Dr. Sherry led teams in researching building energy performance, indoor environmental quality, and LEED certified green buildings. Dr. Sherry also developed automatic measurement and data acquisition systems for the UNLV technology lab to test underfloor air distribution systems for maximum energy sustainability.
This research informed Dr. Sherry’s consulting work on complex building projects for schools, government buildings, offices, hospitals, and more to offer innovative solutions for a greener future.
Since choosing Dublin as her forever home over a decade ago, Dr. Sherry believes there is no better place to live, work, and raise her family.
Once living in the Bay Area, Dr. Sherry was appointed as the Director of Green Building of the National Resource Defense Council, the top non-profit international environmental advocacy organization. Dr. Sherry collaborated with a broad innovative coalition including Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Projects led by Dr. Sherry were awarded by the International Clean Energy Research Center, established by President Barack Obama.
Dr. Sherry’s environmental engineering expertise equipped her years as Senior Program Manager and lead engineer at PG&E where she maximized energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of products, projects, and programs.
For the past five years, Dr. Sherry has again acted on her passion for education--when she realized her own school-aged children and so many other families need guidance in extracurricular education and college preparation, Dr. Sherry co-founded an educational organization to provide extensive leadership training and accessible, high-quality, and cost-effective college planning for students and families. Dr. Sherry’s own desire to be involved in her children’s education and spend more time with them has driven her college planning work so that she can help Dublin families do the same.
Dr. Sherry’s volunteer service includes founding a nonprofit to help Indian children with food access, advising in education non-profits, leading in the Dublin Chinese Community, and serving as the VP of the Fallon Middle School PTA. Previously, Dr. Sherry has served as a senior advisor at the US-China Energy Efficiency Alliance, a board member of Chinese Institute of Engineers, a group leader in Church, and a volunteer of a variety of charity organizations.
Dr. Sherry and her husband, Tom, have been married for 20 years and have two wonderful children, Elizabeth and Hubert who attend Dublin High School and Fallon Middle School.
Political Beliefs
Political Philosophy
No matter the issue at hand, my guiding principles will be to LISTEN and COLLABORATE: listen to you and your concerns, and collaborate with local leaders and experts in our community to find the best solutions for Dublin.
My priorities are:
COMMUNITY HEALTH + SAFETY
As COVID-19 continues to adapt, so must we. As your City Council Member, I will lean on medical expertise and draw from my own background in technology to increase safety measures in our public spaces.
ENVIRONMENT
With all Dublin has to offer, it's no wonder that people and businesses continue to flock here. But as we grow, we must do so responsibly, for our neighbors and our planet. I believe in protecting open space for future generations to enjoy, and that when we do build, we must do so with sustainability in mind.
THRIVING DUBLIN
In the face of unprecedented challenges, it is essential that we support our local businesses and, in turn, our local families. Every additional business that closes its doors in Dublin is a loss--we must work tenfold to ensure we keep Dublin working. As a small business owner myself, I understand first-hand how we ought to support businesses in Dublin to come back from the losses and continue to grow and thrive.
TRANSPORTATION
The gridlock that has now become commonplace in our community is counterproductive and must be addressed. I will work together with our city and county leaders to find solutions to make our commutes and day-to-day lives more efficient, pleasant, and environmentally-friendly.
EDUCATION
As an advocate for excellent education, I believe we must equip our educators and prepare our children for their futures by ensuring we offer the best resources for our educators and students to succeed. With the tremendous growth Dublin has experienced in recent years, so has come more traffic and school crowding--which, left unchecked, will stunt Dublin's quality of life and education long-term unless we step in to ensure school growth with the rest of the community.

My Top 3 Priorities
- Fiscal sustainability: My priorities will be to find solutions to solve financial imbalances without cutting desperately needed services to our residents, sustain our local businesses, and create local employment opportunities.
- Smart development: We need to critically think about our future development efforts and create constructive solutions that meet the needs of our residents, while preserving remaining open space and conserving our natural resources.
- Affordable housing: Dublin has become unaffordable for many people. I’ll focus on finding creative solutions to address growing RHNA targets, so teachers, essential workers, new families, folks with disabilities, and seniors can afford to live here.

Biography
The East Bay has been my home for most of my life. My family and I have been members of the Dublin community for the last 26 years, witnessing and taking part in the evolution of our city over these past three decades.
My wife, Sylvia and I have been partners in life for 35 years and have raised two daughters, Lauren and Sarah. Our daughters have been educated in Dublin Schools, preparing them well for college and for their careers. Over the years, our family has developed strong friendships in Dublin that have bound us to this special community.
The values learned from hard work, listening, and respecting the views of others, have allowed me to successfully manage a 35-year career in finance and banking. The last 20 years of my career has involved directing treasury operations for large multinational corporations. My formal education includes receiving an MBA from the University of San Diego and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance from San Jose State University.
Throughout my career, the demands and the expectations for quickly resolving issues and completing projects have been high, and a strong work ethic has been mandatory. Professionally, I have managed the financial resources of large multi-national companies. As your representative on the City Council, I will use this experience to ensure City resources are balanced with sound fiscal strategies.
As a long-term resident of Dublin, maintaining a high quality of life for our community is important to me. Fixing the traffic congestion and capacity issues in our City's schools resulting from years of growth initiatives, will require effective infrastructure management and dedicated collaborative efforts with our commissions and district representatives. Physical space will be limited going forward. So we must encourage smart development and mandate community programs designed to conserve water and power efficiency.
The future direction of our City will always be dictated by our legacy. Dublin is in a critical stage of development, and we have an opportunity to build a model city through well-thought planning. Our community's infrastructure and natural resources should be managed prudently and with an understanding of their future applications. If we take a holistic view of our community’s needs our success is assured.

Smart Development
The City has enjoyed the benefits of a 20+year run on development. But this has led to our current density and traffic situation. Growth is inevitable as people want to live in our community. It’s how you define development as a tool for our residents.
Dublin has been one of the fastest growing cities in California for more than two decades. The City has benefited financially from rapid and extensive development, but at a cost. Our streets remain congested with traffic and our beautiful natural landscapes have nearly disappeared, replaced by the realistic scenes of endless housing tracts.
The timing is not great for our civic leaders, who are scrambling to balance the growing demand for infrastructure and services with shrinking financial resources. Financial challenges continue to mount due to the loss of developer fees and sales tax revenue as our local businesses face economic hardship.
In these complex times, growth must be intelligently managed, based on planning and development that is focused on improving the quality of our community. The decisions we make today are the legacy for future generations of Dublin families.
As a Council member I will strongly support:
· re-development projects that make practical use of existing structures for both commercial and residential purposes
· initiatives that provide for open-space, and balanced economic and environmental sustainability
· transit zone-oriented mixed use development projects and projects that will have a low density impact on our community
· Increase the mix of affordable housing, independent and assisted living and memory care facilities for our seniors
· business initiatives that promote local employment and use of local skilled labor for development projects.

Biography
I grew up in the Tri-Valley, and I have such fond memories of movie premieres at the theatre, soccer practice in local parks, and hours spent in the public library. I am proud to call Dublin my home.
But this year has been very difficult, with the pandemic, economic slowdown, social unrest, and wildfires. I was sad, frustrated, and angry, and I decided to run for City Council because I wanted to do something and take action.
I am qualified to be Dublin's next City Council member. I earned my BA & MS from Stanford University and worked at the US Department of State, US Federal Reserve, and World Bank. I currently work in tech and run an entrepreneurship non-profit. I will apply my prior experiences to restore Dublin's economic growth and take a community-first approach to get things done.
Political Beliefs
Political Philosophy
We need a new and fresh voice in City Council. Dublin needs someone who’s thinking long-term for our future. And I don't mean just for the next 4-8 years, but for the next 20 years. My priorities for Dublin are:
- Local Economic Growth
- Downtown Dublin
- Traffic & Infrastructure Development
- Climate Change
- Public Safety
- Affordable Housing
I'm a clean money candidate. I do not accept developer or special interest money. Everyday people's voices are being left out of the political process because of powerful special interest groups. As a result, I am building a campaign supported by everyday people.

My Top 3 Priorities
- SAFETY & TRAFFIC - In these anxious times, safety is a major concern and we need to ensure that we have a safe place to live, work, and enjoy our community. We’ll achieve this by exploring innovative solutions and leveraging proven technologies.
- RESILIENCE & PREPAREDNESS - From the fires last year to COVID-19 now, our level of preparedness needs to be stronger and more immediate. Preparedness means being proactive in our approach versus being reactive and then scrambling.
- ECONOMIC & ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY We need to work towards a sustainable economically & environmentally city. We also need to provide a center of activity for the city, within our existing urban footprint; promoting more active lifestyles.

Biography
I promise to be the voice for each and every one of you. I promise to represent you with integrity and competence! My plan is simple: let’s improve our safety & well-being, our resilience to deal with various circumstances, and our economic and environmental sustainability. As a scientist by training who has led multiple bioinformatics organizations across multiple facets, I am able to quickly understand & navigate through complex problems and deliver simple and practical solutions. This experience will be a strong foundation to enhance Dublin’s fiscal responsibility and collaborate with neighboring cities. Through community engagement, exploration and innovation, we will allocate resources prudently while working to drive growth. Impact cannot be achieved by simply looking to cut budgets, but rather by building Dublin’s resiliency for the future and directly and confidently addressing issues such as improving neighborhood safety; attracting, supporting, and diversifying businesses; and improving our vast outdoor spaces. Once elected to City Council, I will be prepared on Day 1 and promise to tirelessly strive for a safer, more resilient, and vibrant Dublin!

Political Philosophy
It is vital we have people serve on the City Council who will represent Dublin with integrity, and strive for the well-being of each and everyone. My primary goal is to be the voice of Dublin, represent it honorably, and grow the community to even greater heights. Over the past few weeks in particular, I have had the opportunity to connect with so many of you. I will continue to do so as a council member. I want to understand the things you love about Dublin, but also your issues, concerns, and problems. Lets come together and work on common solutions. Based on these conversations, I’ve shared my thoughts on these three keys: priorities safety/traffic, resilience/preparedness, and economic and environmental sustainability on my website.

Biography
I was born in Oman in 1977 to an American mother and Tunisian Father. My mother was a Peace Corps nurse and my father taught language arts as part of a foreign mission program to improve education in Middle Eastern countries. In 1989 my family moved from Tunisia to Texas, where I attended high school and college.
In 2004, I relocated to California where I met and married my wife, Deanna.
I have lived in the Bay Area since 2006 and in Dublin since 2013. Deanna and I have a 13 year old daughter who attends Fallon Middle School.
My parents instilled in me the idea that hard work coupled with heart are critical to a healthy, happy and purposeful life. Both of my parents devoted their lives to improving the lives of others. That spirit guides my every step.
My ambition has always been to make a positive impact by owning or managing a business. After getting my start in business by working for a national retail electronics chain, I transitioned to real estate and operated a successful real estate business.
In 2014, I made a life-changing decision to become a fitness entrepreneur. My wife and I opened a yoga studio in Livermore. Six years later, Joya Yoga has expanded into a thriving regional operation with studios in six East Bay cities (including two Dublin locations), with additional locations on the way.
Building Joya Yoga has given me a deep understanding of the challenges that small business owners face, and an appreciation of the essential contribution that small business makes to a community’s economic well-being.
Successfully navigating the COVID-19 landscape requires strong leadership rooted in creativity, resilience, compassion, practicality and consensus building. If elected to be your City Council representative, I will bring these qualities to bear and use all of my energy to build a healthier, happier, safer and more prosperous Dublin.
