Describe what proposal(s) you would support to alleviate the shortage of affordable housing for all income groups in California?
Answer from Susan Talamantes Eggman:
Affordable housing is a major priority for me and while in the Assembly I supported a number of bills to address the issue, including: SB 2 (Atkins) which established a small fee on real estate transactions to help fund affordable housing (with 70% of the revenue going directly to local agencies) and SB 3 (Beall) which authorized $4 billion in state bonds for affordable housing programs and veteran's home ownership. This year I strongly supported the increase in funding through the budget on affordable housing programs, specifically including the establishment of the Project Roomkey and Project Homekey programs. I also authored AB 2580, which would have streamlined the conversion of hotels and motels into affordable housing. While this bill fell short, it helped provide the impetus for the Project Homekey program and I will continue to push for it in the future.
What programs or legislation would you support to meet the water needs of all Californians?

I have supported efforts to provide safe and reliable drinking water, funding for improved water efficiency and regional solutions to ensuring adequate water supply. In my first term in the Assembly I played an instrumental role in ensuring the passage of AB 1471 (Rendon), which authorized $7.5 billion in state general obligation bonds to help fund a variety of water programs, including: safe & clean drinking water projects, flood protection, drought protection, groundwater sustainability, regional water supply projects, and water recycling.
To reach a goal of carbon neutrality by 2045, as set forth in a 2018 executive order what, if any, proposals, plans or legislation would you support? Please be specific.

During my time in the State Assembly, I have supported a number of bills that will help us get to a carbon neutral future including: AB 693 (Eggman) which directed up to a billion dollars into transitioning affordable multifamily housing to solar energy; SB 350 (De Leon) which set a target of 50% renewable energy by 2030; and SB 100 (De Leon) which established the state's policy of planning for achieving 100% clean energy by 2045.
According to the California Legislative Analyst’s Office, we spend over $81,000 per individual who is incarcerated. Other than incarceration, what ways can the State address safety and justice?
Answer from Susan Talamantes Eggman:
I have long been a proponent of restorative justice and diversion programs. There are people who do things for which they should go to prison but there are also people who are sent to prison who - if given a second chance could turn their lives around and save taxpayers a lot of money. Warehousing human beings for nonviolent crimes does not further efforts to justice or safety and we should look to expand alternatives.
