Summary
We need to continue on improving public education. An experienced candidate in Finance and Education for advocacy on combating racism, promoting equality, justice, and fairness in public education is now needed more than ever.
Dear Voter,
My education and qualifications for re-election as your Hayward Unified School Board trustee are my career as a University Business Professor for Master level courses, and my current service as an elected member of the Hayward Unified School District Board of Trustees advocating for strong fiscal transparency, excellence in education, and safety in schools. This district, which comprises an area much larger than the city of Hayward, presents distinctive challenges in its cultural and academic diversity.
My earlier background as a real-estate lease analyst for major multi-national corporations gives me the ability to evaluate the bottom line which is rare in education budgeting, and in most government work. I have presented useful approaches to cost-cutting to put more taxpayer dollars into classroom teaching and less into sweetheart contracts. Prior to serving in elective office, I was also a classroom teacher, holding a BS in Computer Science, a Multi-Subject Teaching Credential, MS in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in Education. My research evaluates the dollarization of the currency in Ecuador and highlights the importance of the economic and financial literacy we all need.
I am proud to have introduced computer technology to my third-grade Hayward students and raised their test scores 30%. In my tenure serving the community through collaboration I have been able to increase the rate of high school graduations, promote and raise the minimum wage for district employees, develop procedures for competitive bidding on contracts, renovate and upgrade district schools, guarantee that all children regardless of immigration status receive a quality education, coach low-income families on business startups, and provide investing instruction for stocks, options, and futures to underemployed parents. Born in Mexico, I became a U.S. citizen at the age of twelve, when I entered public school in California. Bilingual in Spanish and English, I want to give every K-12 student in Hayward Unified School District the mastery of the English language and a knowledge of economics and finance to become successful and productive. I pledge to help education rebuild prosperity, to reduce government waste, and to listen to you. Please give me your vote for the Hayward Unified School District, Trustee. Thank you.
