I am a working parent and community advocate respectfully requesting your vote. Through the formation of the recall committee and your support, this historic election was made possible.

Our district needs a change in leadership. Our students have lost invaluable resources such as Generation 1st Degree, the newest buildings housing science labs at ERHS, effective administrators and teachers, a Deputy Sheriff at ERHS, and General funds spent on ineffective consultants. As a community we have lost trust in the district.

I have a track record for advocating for our valued teachers/staff and for ALL students.

I have been a parent in the district for 28 years and actively involved since 2003 when I saw a need for additional funding for student activities, as well as family engagement events at my child’s school site.

As CBOC member Chairperson, I reviewed all bond expenditures recommended Joint-Use to maximize bond dollars, reported double-billing and advocated for transparency including project-to-date and fiscal year reporting.

As DAC Chairperson, I reviewed School Safety Plans, School Plans, LCAP Plan, General budget, recommended funding that benefits ALL students equitably, advocated for student safety, and increased parent engagement opportunities.

I pledge to serve our community with integrity; rebuild fiscally responsibly, recommend the creation of a Code of Ethics for Board Members, support high academic standards, leverage community partnerships to bring programs that support the whole child, and work collaboratively with students, teachers, staff, and community.

Position Papers

Support high standards and excellence

Support high standards and excellence in Academics, Arts, and Athletics

If elected I will support high standards and excellence in Academics, Arts, and Athletics. I believe in continuous improvement; therefore, the strategic plan needs to be evaluated yearly, a practice that is currently not happening.

The loss of Generation 1st degree was detrimental to our students; our kinder students no longer receive the free bag of books that instilled the love of reading, our high school students lost college/career workshops, and college field trips.

I will advocate for increased AP Classes and CTE pathways.

All students deserve art and music education, not only the schools themed as an Academy. The current district Arts plan needs to be to address the inequity. Vertical articulation is needed in the district to improve student outcomes.

Middle school afterschool intramural sports can be expanded, currently, participation is limited to the THINK program.  The Boys and Girls Club at ERHS can be expanded to the Middle Schools. A Robotics Club is needed at the high schools to accommodate the incoming freshmen. Many programs are fragmented that is why vertical articulation is needed across the district. Additionally, we must leverage current partnerships and seek new partnerships to bring the resources needed for our students.

Work collaborately with all all stakeholders

Work collaboratively with all all stakeholders which include parents, students, staff, and our community members

I pledge to work collaboratively with all stakeholders. Our district staff (administrators, teachers, and classified staff) are a vital part of our community, I will always respect and support them.

We must increase parent engagement, which is linked to student achievement, currently, district parent workshops are limited to morning sessions. This limits the participation of working parents.

I will advocate to reverse the public comment time limits at school board meetings and abide by the Brown Act. Our community deserves to be heard and concerns validated.

The City of Pico Rivera and the school district have come together during the pandemic to serve our community in an outstanding manner. I will work to support that partnership and advocate for increased partnerships with the County Board of Supervisors, and businesses and local colleges.

Support Fiscal Accountability With Transparency

Support fiscal accountability with transparency

I pledge to serve our community with integrity, ensuring that resources are aligned for student academic success, including positive school climate, student, and staff safety, and rebuild responsibly with proper bond oversight.

The past three Chief Business Officers have raised red flags and recommended a budget committee be established to address a deficit that was projected. Governor Newsom's plan to cut 10% in education, in response to the pandemic, will further strain the reserves.  I support the creation of a budget committee comprised of stakeholders to look for new funds, in addition to funding management. Student and staff safety must be our priority during this crisis. Additional sanitation stations and 1:1 Chrome Books and recommended implementation forthcoming from State and LA County guidelines will help mitigate the contraction and spread of the virus.

The district is currently under an FCMAT audit. Proper bond oversight is currently lacking, issues of transparency regarding bond project scope of work, budgets, and ineffective bond expenditures. The Citizens Bond Oversight Committee is not reviewing bond expenditures nor creating annual reports. Addressing these deficiencies in addition to reducing cabinet position high turnover will help the district to operate effectively and efficiently and regain the trust lost by the community.

The school board must also be accountable to the community, BP 9400 calls for a yearly Board Self-Evaluation to measure progress towards stated goals and objectives, this is not a current practice. I will advocate to abide by the bylaws and recommend a Code of Ethics for board members to be created.
