Biography

Please vote for my re-election to the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee.

What follows is a description of what the Central Committee does, and of my qualifications:

THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE

The Central Committee is the face and the voice of the Democratic Party in the county, organized under the auspices of the California Democratic Party, which, in turn, is organized under the auspices of the DNC, the Democratic National Committee. The Central Committee's duties and activities include:

1) identifying, endorsing and promoting the best Democratic candidates for all county elected offices, from school board and city council members through county supervisors

2) voter registration campaigns

3) Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) activities, including phone banking and precinct walking, from a centrally-located County Democratic Headquarters operated during the General Election campaign cycle every two years

4) chartering local Democratic clubs

5) providing training for aspiring political candidates

6) featuring noted outside speakers at many of our monthly meetings

7) lobbying our elected officials on social justice issues through resolutions adopted by the members

8) serving as delegates to the annual California Democratic Convention.

MY QUALIFICATIONS

Central Committee members are all volunteers. I've lost exact count, but believe I have been an elected member of the Central Committee for the past 12 or 14 years. During that time, I have been involved in all the activities listed above.

I served two terms as the Central Committee's Northern Vice-Chair and one term as the Recording Secretary.  I have long chaired one of the chartered clubs, San Mateo County Democracy for America, a wonderful group of dedicated activists.  Our club is focused on the promotion of progressive issues and reforms, including social justice, universal healthcare, election integrity and the environment, and I bring those issues to the Central Committee, often presenting resolutions for adoption by Committee members -- resolutions which are then presented to county and state elected officials.

On the personal side, I am a wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  We have lived in San Mateo County for the past 40 years.  I'm retired now, but was an actress for many years...before going corporate.  The last six years of my corporate life were spent at Oracle, where I was the West Region Director for Oracle Resouce Services.  My husband, Dan Hager, is an award-winning ceramic artist, and I am a painter, primarily of portraits.

Our country is in particular need of political activism these days, and I'm eager to continue as a member of the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee.  I humbly ask for your vote.
