LEGAL EXPERIENCE
Sherry Powell is currently assigned to the Hardcore Gang Division special unit of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, focusing on complex litigation of gang-related homicides. She has tried 88 jury trials, has managed courtroom calendar caseloads in multiple courthouses and previously specialized in juvenile court case management as well as Victim Impact Program (VIP) advocacy. The vast majority of her career has been focused on serving and advocating for special victims of violent crime and serving as a gatekeeper for justice. As a deputy district attorney, she has advocated for victims of human trafficking, rape, child molestation, domestic violence, elder abuse and hate crimes and has advocated for families whose loved ones have been murdered. As a gatekeeper for justice, she has been responsible throughout her entire legal career for ensuring that cases are evaluated at all stages of litigation for issues of identity and proof with the singular focus of seeking justice.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Sherry Powell believes in community service and has taught the Project LEAD program to at-risk 5th grade students for six years. Through her teaching, she has instilled within her students the principles of tolerance and respect for others coupled with an ability to resist peer pressure and resolve conflict in a positive manner. Students graduate from this yearlong program by performing a mock trial in a real courtroom.
LIFE EXPERIENCE
Sherry Powell grew up in a blue collar neighborhood in Norwalk, California. Her family struggled to make ends meet during much of her childhood. She was the first in her family to obtain a college degree. She worked for twenty years before putting herself through UCLA Law School. Her judicial candidacy is distinguished by this personal background and non-legal work experience as this life experience provides her with an ability to relate to and serve community members seeking justice in our court system.
