Biography
Councilmember Ed Eng was elected to the La Mirada City Council on March 3, 2015 and served as Mayor in 2017-18.Councilmember Eng is currently the Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Economy and Efficiency Commission, an independent advisory board charged with developing innovative solutions to address government bureaucracies.Before that, Councilmember Eng was the Regional President of the Los Angeles Times (Times), where he led a strategic initiative to transform the publishing company to a multimedia conglomerate.During his tenure, Councilmember Eng received the Innovation of the Year award for his diversity partnership strategy that catapulted the Times to the highest circulated newspaper in the country. Following the acquisition of the Times by Tribune Co., Councilmember Eng was appointed the Director of Mergers & Acquisition. Councilmember Eng began his career at the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, spending 14 years in various management positions.
Councilmember Eng is expected to receive his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership in May 2020 with an emphasis in public policy from Pepperdine University. He holds an MBA from Pepperdine University, a Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering from CSULA, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA.

I believe in a mixed capitalist sytem that includes some degree of government intervention when necessary to spur economic activities. That being said, I support free compeititon because profit incentives encourage businesses to develop innovative services and products that are desired by consumers.
