Hello Everyone.  I’m Tom King and I’m the newcomer here.  I’m going on my 2nd year here in San Anselmo, but I know Marin very well as my family has lived here since 2003 – nearly 15 years.  My son went through the Tiburon public schools and went on to Redwood High School where my daughter also attended.

I’m a writer and also very involved in the charity world.  As the founder and president of the first and only charity to ever offer donors a money back guarantee, I believe I have a good balance of a private sector focus on Accountability and Results with the public / nonprofit commitment on empathy and compassion.

I’m running for town council because I believe we can and should make many improvements.  Improvements for our health, environment, our seniors, and our overall community.

I support Expanding Democracy with Term Limits of 1 Term Only for elected officials, public financing of elections, and lowering the voting age to 15.  A permanent solution to our flooding issue, lowering the sales tax and other ideas to help our local merchants, improving traffic with a roundabout at the Hub and a parking garage downtown, protecting our most vulnerable seniors who live alone, better protecting our pets, improved pedestrian and bike safety, a ban on smoking (except in one’s home), no GMOs, no fluoride in our water, and about 85 more ideas on my website –

I believe democracy and a candidate’s platform should be both specific and innovative.

Thank you.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Our democracy has a serious flaw.  One which perhaps only someone objective and new to government can identify and take note of.

San Anselmo, like thousands of towns and cities across the nation, does not pay its town council members.  It’s a volunteer position.  Think about that:  The most important job in town – being a member of its elected ruling body – is unpaid.  So who can apply for a volunteer job?  Only people with money, and/or those with a great deal of time – someone retired, very flexible schedule, etc.  Well, that leaves out about 80% of the population.  That’s not democracy.

Let’s expand our local democracy by making the Town Council a modestly paid position so that all of us can have the option to run for local public office.

Our Congress has about a 5% approval rating, yet an astounding 95% re-election rate.  There’s a big disconnect there.  Also, about 94% of all elections are won by the candidate who has or spends to most money.  That’s not democracy either.

It’s hard to get money out of politics when money is politics.

Money may also be the reason why I may not win this election.  I’ve run out of it, you see.  Unless I receive campaign donations, I can not put yard signs or door hangers up, since I can’t afford to buy them.  If you support my campaign and my ideas, please consider making a donation to help keep me in the running.

I have 100+ ideas for San Anselmo on my website, and I believe I am the only clear choice for change and innovation on the Council.  I respectfully ask for your vote.

Thank you, and please visit my website for all my ideas and platform.  You may also call me anytime at my home number:  415 860-2908.
