Biography

I was raised in East San Jose, and I still live in East San Jose.  I started kindergarten in Alum Rock schools and graduated from Alum Rock schools.  I am a proud veteran, U.S. Navy and Navy Air Reserve, and the proud son of a U.S. Army WWII combat veteran.  I am a proud graduate Overfelt High School, and of Santa Clara University.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Adult politics has no place in elementary public school education.  We can do much more for our schoolchildren by focusing on academic achievement, instead of the political differences of adults.

Position Papers

Candidate Statement

Summary

Esau Herrera, proud parent of two middle school teachers, and a proud graduate of Alum Rock schools, speaking out and standing up for students, parents, and teachers.

I am a proud graduate of Alum Rock schools, Overfelt High School, and Santa Clara University.  I am the proud parent of two middle school teachers.  Supporting our schoolchildren and our teachers is very important to me.

I support our parents who strive everyday to assure that their children receive a high quality education, preparing them for high school and college.  I support directing additional funds to our music and performing arts programs, and after-school sports programs.  I support increased parent involvement in our schools.  I support safe schools, and marched with other parents at the local “March for our Lives” event.

Our schools have achieved some notable successes over the past few years, including county and statewide awards for academic achievement.  Our jazz program and student mariachi program have likewise been recognized.  Yes, this school district has encountered some challenging issues along the way.  But we can do more for our schoolchildren by focusing on students instead of the political differences of adults.

It’s easy to complain about public education.  I prefer to work hard to continue improving education.
