Biography

Name:  Jan Giovannini-Hill

Occupation:   Incumbent / University Financial Analyst

For:  Ohlone CCD Board of Trustees, Area 2, Fremont, Full Term

My education and qualifications for this position include 51 years of employment in public higher education venues in Bay Area colleges --  having started working at the College of San Mateo in 1967 in the Library for $1.50/hour; working for over 42 years at CSU East Bay from 1970 through 2012 in five different departments on campus and in a variety of positions; as an Instructor at a local business/technical college for six years [a second job in the 90’s], and working in numerous non-profit and community organizations for over 35 years in the Tri-Cities area including scouting, youth sports, church activities, etc.  Today, I volunteer for the Fremont Police Department VIPS program.

I have a Master’s Degree in Public Administration/Organizational Change, a Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Communication/Special Major, and an Associate’s Degree in Business/Data Processing.  As a first generation college student in my family, I understand the obstacles and challenges that many students face seeking higher education.  My own academic preparation was an uphill challenge for 26 years on and off.  My four children have all attended Ohlone College, and I believe that these campuses are a hidden gem in the Tri-City area that deserve Board Members with the experience, the background and life skills, commitment, inspiration and creative vision to take them to the next level.  I believe I have those qualities at this time in my life.  Please re-elect me for a third term to continue building bridges within the academic arena, be a voice for inclusiveness on this Board, to seek budget stability, and to enhance community and business partnerships.

As a long time university employee, college student, instructor, administrator, parent, and recognized community leader, I understand the issues facing higher education today, and would welcome your vote to the Ohlone Community College District, Trustee, Area 2, full time seat.  Thank you so much for your consideration, and consider re-electing 'Experience that Counts' this November.
