Craig Milgrim

  • 30 Year University and College Professor
  • Classroom Teacher at Grossmont College

Due to my extensive classroom teaching experience, I know firsthand what it takes for students to succeed!  I have been employed as a College Professor at Grossmont College for the past 26 years.

I want to ensure community colleges remain affordable, providing college transfer and career training opportunities, especially for our veterans.  New legislation will take effect this fall to make community college tuition free for all first time students!

As a City of San Diego taxpayer, I want to ensure our tax dollars are spent wisely, with transparency and accountability.  I have spent six years on my college’s budget and planning committee, and I am confident that I have the skills and experience needed to ensure the San Diego Community College District’s budget remains aligned to best serve our students.

My qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Botany, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science.  I have served on three college accreditation teams, I am completing my 11th year as Co-Chair of my department, and I am a former officer of the college’s Academic Senate.

I strongly believe that one of the missions of our community colleges is to provide a clear pathway to good jobs.  Working with our private industry partners, I established agreements with the Southern California Biotech Center, the Salk Institute, and the San Diego Workforce Partnership to place our students in good paying jobs.

Our other mission in the community college is to provide transfer opportunities to four year colleges.  I have established grant partnerships with San Diego State University, the University of San Diego, and the University of California at San Diego to help our community college students successfully transfer.

I am committed to green energy and high energy efficiency on all of our campuses.  I ride my bike for transportation whenever possible, and drive a hybrid vehicle.

I am a certified student mental health specialist, and a strong advocate for and financially contribute to programs to eliminate student food insecurity.

I helped our students found a campus LGBT club in 1994 and have served as their faculty club advisor.  I am also a regular contributor and received volunteer training at the San Diego LGBT Community Center.

I am not a politician seeking higher office.  I am a career teacher seeking to ensure our students receive the college transfer preparation and workforce training needed to be successful members of our community.

I am endorsed by the American Federation of Teachers.

I respectfully ask for your vote to the San Diego Community College District Governing Board.
