Janet Goodson is running for one of three City Council seats in Oroville. She is from Sacramento, CA and came to Oroville in 2009. She worked in the State Judicial system while living in Sacramento for the Department of Justice in the Peace Officers Standards and Training unit, was promoted to the Department of Corrections and subsequently the Board of Prison Terms.
Since 2011, Janet has worked with District Attorney Mike Ramsey, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea and Chief Bill LaGrone of the Oroville Police Department on many community driven committees. In 2012, she Co-Founded the Southside Vanguard which hosts community forums representing community concerns and issues. As a result of these forums, the Oroville communities and law enforcement officials have bridged a respective gap in community relations.
In 2015, Janet worked with LAFCO representatives, District Supervisor, Bill Connelly and Mayor Linda Dahlmeier in the annexation of South Oroville into the City’s parameters.
Janet has an educational background in Social Studies and Behavioral Science and is currently employed by Youth for Change in Paradise, CA as a Behavioral Health Counselor. Her passion for community carries over into her work ethic in regards to working with at risk children and young adults. Janet is a member of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Steering Committee which awards selected College bound Oroville area H.S. students scholarship funding. Each student is recognized and presented Certificate of Awards by U.S. Representative, Congressman Doug LaMalfa.
Due to the incorporation of South Oroville into the City, Janet will be the first African American, the first female and the first candidate to run for a City office from South Oroville. Her vision for the City of Oroville is based on the intent to build a safe, prosperous and vibrant City that the people deserve.
