City of MarinaCandidate for Council Member, Council District 3

Gail Morton
My Top 3 Priorities
- Protect Marina's groundwater and environmentally sensitive coastal habitat, and support Expansion of Pure Water Monterey for the Peninsula's water needs. Affordable water is essential for Marina today and the future.
- Establish Marina as a leader in smart development -- which requires increasing the inventory of housing that is affordable; eliminating the digital divide; and expanding economic opportunities for everyone to earn livable wages..
- Remove blighted buildings and capitalize on our beaches, open space and proximity to National Monument to make Marina an even better city for businesses to locate, residents to live and tourist to visit..

It is anticipated that policies or practices, especially as to policing and criminal justice will be scrutinized for inequities. Fairness of city hiring practices will also be reviewed. Input from formerly incarcerated individuals in this endeavor will certainly be beneficial to the validity of the inquiry and development of beneficial changes in Marina's practices and policies.
City of Marina is not directly involved in the supervision of formerly incarcerted individuals in our community. While our city programs are not specifically designed for indivduals transitioning from incarceration to community, many benefit from Marina's partnerships with public, private and community agenicies to support individuals and their families, including meeting food needs, child supervision and enrichment programs.
