Steve spent his entire career protecting San Diego as a criminal prosecutor. He was a student law clerk with the California Attorney General, a Deputy City Attorney, a Supervising Trial Deputy, anAssistant U.S. Attorney, and a Special Deputy District Attorney. He has trained new Deputy City Attorneys, and instructed state prosecutors from across the United States at the National College of District Attorenys. He is a nationally recognized expert in identity theft law, and spent his entire career in court, handling scores of jury trials, and 100 appeals before the Ninth Circuit
Barbara Miller gave birth to Steve at Scripps Hospital when it overlooked the La Jolla Cove. His father, Ed Miller was a career Prosecutor dedicated to protecting San Diego as the first U.S. Attorney in this District, and San Diego County’s District Attoreny for over 24 years. While attending law school at U.S.C., and writing criminal response briefs for the California Attorney General, Steve decided to go into the family business as a career prosecutor, dedicated to protecting San Diego. Working as a Deputy City Attorney, a Federal Prosecutor, and a Special Deputy District Attorney, Steve pursued his dream of keeping his community safe. Steve now wants to continue that mission as a Superior Court Judge.
Steve attended public school, graduating from La Jolla High, and attending Dartmouth College. His college summers took him from working is a warehouse, to foreign study at the University of Leningrad, to driving a beer truck for a local distributor of Budweiser. While at Dartmouth, Steve won the New England Decathlon Championship. After college, Steve worked at the San Marcos Price Club before attending law school.
After he returned home to begin his career as a prosecutor, Steve met and married his Jennifer. Married for over 28 year, Steve and Jennifer have two grown sons, living and working in San Diego. Steve is an Aztec for life, as the husband and father of three SDSU graduates.
Steve’s career as a prosecutor gave him the opportunity to gain extensive trial experience, with scores of jury trials, innumerable bench trials, and 100 appeals before the Ninth Circuit, with 16 published decisions, involving every imaginable crime. Steve has prosecuted everything from a minor trolley tickets, to homicides, and everything in between. Steve wants to bring that experience to the San Diego Superior Court.
