Sherry Powell is a Gang Homicide Prosecutor running for Superior Court Judge, Office No. 97.

Sherry Powell is currently assigned to the Hardcore Gang Division special unit of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, focusing on complex litigation of gang-related homicides.  She has tried 88 jury trials, has managed courtroom calendar caseloads in multiple courthouses and previously specialized in juvenile court case management as well as Victim Impact Program (VIP) advocacy.  The vast majority of her career has been focused on serving and advocating for special victims of violent crime and serving as a gatekeeper for justice.  As a deputy district attorney, she has advocated for victims of human trafficking, rape, child molestation, domestic violence, elder abuse and hate crimes and has advocated for families whose loved ones have been murdered.  As a gatekeeper for justice, she has been responsible throughout her entire legal career for ensuring that cases are evaluated at all stages of litigation for issues of identity and proof with the singular focus of seeking justice.

Sherry Powell has worked on numerous cases receiving media coverage.  Two noteworthy examples include the brutal assault of good samaritan Leanora Powell and the prosecution of a Long Beach business owner for sexual assault.

Sherry Powell is endorsed by the Honorable Kevin Brazile who presides over all Los Angeles County Superior Courts and 550 bench officers, including all Los Angeles County Superior Court Judges.  Moreover, she is endorsed by over 40 individual Los Angeles County Superior Court Judges who are familiar with her courtroom demeanor, professional ethic, work ethic, ability to efficiently manage a courtroom calendar caseload as well as her written and oral advocacy skills.  She is endorsed by a wide range of organizations, including labor and law enforcement.

Sherry Powell believes in community service and has taught the Project LEAD program to at-risk 5th grade students for six years.  Through her teaching, she has instilled within her students the principles of tolerance and respect for others coupled with an ability to resist peer pressure and resolve conflict in a positive manner.  Students graduate from this yearlong program by performing a mock trial in a real courtroom.

Sherry Powell grew up in a blue collar neighborhood in Norwalk, California.  Her family struggled to make ends meet during much of her childhood.  She was the first in her family to obtain a college degree.  She worked for twenty years before putting herself through UCLA Law School.  Her judicial candidacy is distinguished by this personal background and non-legal work experience as this life experience provides her with an ability to relate to and serve community members seeking justice in our court system.

Sherry Powell has the experience, integrity and vision to fairly and effectively serve as Judge of the Superior Court.
