I began my career as a grassroots organizer for Green Corps, a field school for environmental activists and learned early on that having a voice whether in politics, in your community or your workplace, is critical to a thriving and functioning democracy.
As the Deputy Director for Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi from 2005-2010, I served as her district liaison to a number of constituencies including women, clean tech and environmentalists.
I was an elected member of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee during 2006-2008 & 2008-2010. I held the positions of 3rd Vice Chair as well as the 1st Vice Chair while on the Committee.
I was appointed to be the Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment by then Mayor Gavin Newsom and served in that role from 2010-2014.
Since 2014 I have been the principal of Nutter Consulting, helping cities and nonprofits tackle their biggest transportation and sustainability issues.I work with cities across the country on developing livable and sustainable communities centered around multimodal transportation options. I led the effort along with the National Resources Defense Council to create the Climate & Equity Shared Mobility Action Plan for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation that describes specific strategies for how to incorporate new modes of mobility into cities in a way that focused on more climate friendly and equitable outcomes.
