Like many Angelinos, Michael comes from hardworking parents who taught him the importance of fairness, equality and serving a greater purpose. He counts himself fortunate to have built a successful career on these principles, and he sees the work of the court as an extension of these fundamental values.
As a civil litigator with over two decades in state and federal courts, Michael has proudly served individual clients from all socio-economic backgrounds and businesses large and small. As a mediator and arbitrator, he has helped consumers, businesses, landlords and tenants receive the protection they deserve and find common ground. As Judge Pro Tem for the Ventura and LA County Superior Courts, his sole responsibility has been to ensure that all parties received fair hearings and the justice they were due.
In all of his legal capacities one principle has shined through – whether you are a victim of discrimination, a tenant who has been wrongfully evicted or a small business just trying to succeed – everyone deserves equal respect and equal access to justice.
Judges are sworn to uphold the United States and California Consitutions. As a Judge, Michael will actively listen to the matters before him. Decisions will uphold the letter of the law based upon the evidence presented and the applicable without prejudice.
The Los Angeles County Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the US. Though in many ways it is one of the best court systems in the nation, litigants and attorneys alike share a common complaint – too much valuable time is wasted at the court.
Michael Ribons is inspired by the opportunity to change this.
As a litigator, Michael has seen the emotional and financial toll caused by delays in the judicial system. As a judge pro tem, he has learned that respecting the right to justice means respecting the right to an expedient, efficient legal process. Michael understands that citizens already spend countless hours pursuing their legal rights - time spent away from work, school and family. His goal on the bench – ensuring all citizens have equal access to justice by running a more efficient courtroom.
