No question America is a country of immigrants. Immigrants from so many faiths and cultures have merged to make this country great. However out of control illegal immigration needs to be addressed. For many decades, illegal immigrants from Latin America and other countries have been coming to America. Most of these are hardworking good people that work in our fields and do jobs frankly that Americans do not want. Actually to some degree we encouraged illegal immigration, and in a way we have formed an implied contract with them to stay. It not practical or ethical to now insist on a mass deportation of an estimated 11 million immigrants. Yes it is important to stop the flood of illegal immigrants both from crossing the border and from those that overstay their visas. Our priority should be to secure the boarder and control the visa program. To secure the boarder we will need a combination of a wall and electronic surveillance. Once the boarder is secured, then we need to deal with those illegal immigrants in the United States. Those that have been in the United States long term should after paying a fine, be able to get in line and wait their turn with other immigrants and earn a path to citizenship.
Sanctuary Cities are cities that do not inforce our national immigration laws. Even illegal immigrants convicted crimes have been let go in sanctuary and not deported. Recently Kate Steinle 32 years old was murdered by an illegal alien in San Francisco a sanctuary city. The murder had been released from a San Francisco jail but not deported. Sanctuary cities violate Federal law and must be stopped.
