I am a healthcare practitioner of over four decades. As the former El Camino Hospital Stroke Program Medical Director, elevating it to one of the best in the nation, I have the experience and expertise to champion all other hospital services to the same level of excellence. As one of the founders of the El Camino Hospital Chinese Health Initiative, I want to extend my success in reducing the disparity of health care for all ethnicities in the area.

As a District Board Director, I have improved the governance on the Hospital Board and optimized the use of tax dollars in community benefits for the Healthy Mind, Healthy Body and Healthy Community of the area.

My leadership role and success track record are a reflection of my passion as a health advocate.  They represent my ability to communicate effectively, build consensus and collaboration across multiple stakeholders. You need a strong voice and a physician on the District Board with not just years of experience but a proven history of leadership and success.

Political Philosophy

The number one priority is continual excellence and world-class care provided to our district residents, to maintain El Camino Hospital as the best hospitals in the area, meeting and exceeding the expectations of the patients and their families.

My number two priority is (i) to help accessibility of care by providing free and subsidized health clinics, including the forming of stroke, geriatric and pediatric specialty clinics, which would also assure (ii) continuity of care for these patients discharged from the hospital; (iii) to assure affordability - less health care service is necessary when there is a healthier community, and lower cost by innovative programs, protocols, and ideas to reduce error, redundancy and variation of care which would all be costly.

My third priority is to work cohesively with the community leaders to assure intelligent and appropriate use of the tax dollars to benefit the community. This process should be collaborative, accountable and transparent.

Position Papers

Endorsements from El Camino Medical Staff, Healthcare District and Hospital Board members, Administration, and the Community

"[Dr. Peter] Fung, however, has demonstrated that he has the best interests of the district as a whole at heart during his first four years on the board. He has embraced strategies – opening a series of outpatient health clinics, for example – that bode well for the district’s future. The issues of physician retention and competitive reimbursement remain, but we believe Fung will be part of the solution, not the problem."

- Los Altos Town Crier Staff, Editorial Oct 24, 2018

“As a physician and vascular neurologist for over 40 years, he knows our diverse community and its patients that he continues to serve. This knowledge gives him the depth and breath of the hospital necessary to hold the office of Director.  I highly recommend Dr. Fung for your endorsement and support. It is vital we re-elect Dr. Fung, an honest, dedicated, and the best qualified candidate.”

— Julia Miller, Vice Chair, El Camino Healthcare District Director and ECH Board Member

"As impressive an individual and physician as you are, I'm not surprised at your tremendous development into an increasingly effective board member.  Look forward to at least 4 more years..."

- John L. Zoglin, MBA, Current Member and Past Chair, El Camino Healthcare District Board

"When I reflect upon Dr. Fung, eight primary attributes come to mind: Integrity, Intellect, Work Ethic, Listener, Team, Communicator, Quality, and Community. Dr. Fung has led the charge to transform the El Camino Hospital Board of Directors.

— Donald C. Sibery, MHA, FACHE, Former Interim CEO, El Camino Hospital

"For as long as I have known Dr. Fung, he has not only been a highly skilled and compassionate physician for El Camino Hospital, but also a true leader and champion for all people within the greater Silicon Valley. I feel Dr. Fung always develops a thorough understanding of each and every critical board issue so that he can genuinely do what is best for the community at large. His dedication to doing what’s right is something that I both applaud and admire."

— Justin Liu, M.D., El Camino Hospital Rehabilitation Medicine Director
