Dave Harrington began his law enforcement career with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in 1985. His almost 29 year career included a two year, one month and 13 day stint in the Main Jail, followed by six years in patrol, six years as an Investigator including Economic Crimes, Fugitive Warrants, Sex Crimes and Property Crimes.
Dave promoted to Sergeant in 1999 working in the IRC for a year and a half before returning to Operations/Patrol in both North County and South County before returning to North Operations to lead the Neighborhood Enhancement Team consisting of Community Oriented Policing, Directed Enforcement, Crime Prevention and Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership. It was during this time Dave earned the Medal of Merit for innovations at the department. Concentrating primarily on Deputy safety and training, Dave acquired tactical shotguns, first aid kits and tactical plate carriers (vests that stop rifle rounds) and created an online training program that made every day a training day. Dave finished his career in Yorba Linda working first on the transition and then as the Administrative/Investigation Sergeant for the city.
Dave retired and a year later was elected to the Aliso Viejo City Council where he now serves as the Mayor. He is married to his wife Michele, a business owner, and together they have a blended family including Dave’s two children (Christopher, a Deputy in LA and Natalie, a professional make-up artist), Michele’s 16 yr old son Tyson and two kids they adopted from Ethiopia 17 yr old Negasse and 16 yr old Tamu.
