STATE ASSEMBLY
77th District

BRIAN MAIENSCHEIN
Assemblymember

Assemblymember Brian Maienschein is the only candidate for State Assembly with a lifetime commitment to community service and a record of getting things done.

Brian is the only candidate who grew up in the district, attending elementary, middle and high school here.

While serving as San Diego City Councilmember, Maienschein preserved over 10,000 acres from development in the San Pasqual Valley and spearheaded the completion of SR-56.

Maienschein led the rebuilding of two communities following the devastating Cedar and Witch Creek wildfires, both of which became the fastest disaster recoveries in California.

While serving as Commissioner on Homelessness, he directed United Way’s Project 25, which saves taxpayers millions of dollars every year, reduces homelessness, and serves veterans.

Since his election to the Assembly, Maienschein has worked to protect public safety, build a strong economy, and improve public education.

He introduced legislation to protect children by providing youth sports leagues authority to conduct criminal background checks on all coaches. He also drafted legislation changing the law requiring abandoned animals to be destroyed thus saving thousands of animals.

Maienschein supported legislation to cap out of state admissions to the UC system to insure California students can get in to college.

Maienschein was named Assembly Advocate by Easter Seals for his work with the disabled and Legislator of the Year from PAWPac for his work to protect animals.

"I am proud to serve our community. I will fight for public safety, economic development, and education. I would be honored to receive your vote.”

STATE ASSEMBLY
77th District

MELINDA VÁSQUEZ
Real Estate Attorney and DE Mortgage Underwriter

As a native San Diegan with a career in Real Estate Law and Mortgage Real Estate, I am a product of our community. I have been volunteering in San Diego since 2007 as a Court Appointed Child Advocate, President of the RP Town Council, member of the RP Planning Board, as well as other civic-minded organizations.

Representing a large community requires insight into a wide range of issues in order to determine solutions. As a community leader, I’ve seen the numerous effects of insufficient affordable housing, expensive health care premiums/deductibles, inadequate support for dependent parents, neglected infrastructure, and deplorable waste of our resources. While serving our community, I leverage my education, work experience and personal skills to manage multiple interests in order to solve problems. I will use the same common sense approach in the Assembly.

I am honored for the support of Speaker of the Assembly, Anthony Rendon. I am also supported by locally elected officials like Olga Diaz and Michelle O’Connor-Ratcliff and local organizations like SD Democrats for Equality and Run Women Run.

Government is intended to work for the people but unfortunately the majority of our informed opinions are not easily relayed to representatives. I will continue to be available to our entire constituency to discuss complicated issues and thoroughly evaluate potential solutions. Our community is thoughtful, informed, and eager to help government solve the problems affecting every-day life struggles; It would be my honor to work with you and for you in the State Assembly.
