Economy & Jobs
I will take immediate action in Congress to craft a sustainable national budget and create jobs to help Californians prosper.
As Congressman, I will work to bring good-paying high-skill jobs to the 44thCongressional district. I believe that it is important to strengthen local families by instituting job-training and vocational education opportunities alongside traditional education.
Small businesses are the key to creating thriving communities and ensuring the prosperity of American families. I will continue to support small business in Congress by cutting red tape to help them to prosper. I will be California's small business voice in Congress and will work to give them every tool possible to succeed.
I want to reform America's tax system so that it works better for all Americans while providing the funds necessary for social services. This means ensuring that the nation's wealthiest pay their fair share while reducing the middle class tax burden. Additionally, I want to simplify the tax code and remove unnecessary tax expenditures to increase transparency and decrease taxes for average Americans.
Environment
I believe that a sustainable economy is a strong economy. It is crucial to enact policies that actively address the impacts of climate change now – before it is too late. It is imperative that we adjust our current policies and practices to create a more sustainable state and nation for the future.
While in the California legislature, I was a part of the creation of California's cap and trade program – which has served as a model for cap-and-trade programs around the world. I will work in Congress to institute cap and trade and to expand such programs to further protect the environment, because global warming is an issue that has no boundaries and an improved national policy can improve the lives of future generations.
Immigration:
America has a long history of being a welcoming home to cultures around the world. I firmly believe that embracing our shared history of immigration makes our country stronger. I support immigration reform so that everyone, regardless of their place of origin, can pursue their American Dream. The millions of current undocumented immigrants work hard and contribute to the American economy and deserve to live without constant fear of deportation. I believe that immigration policies should give everyone the chance to succeed, and should not make families live in a state of terror.
I have always supported commonsense solutions for our nation's broken immigration system, like the DREAM Act and DACA. These policies have given refuge to families of immigrants, and we need to expand on their successes. In Congress I will support a comprehensive plan that balances border security and strong enforcement with compassion and a path to legalization of those already here.
Healthcare:
I believe that all Americans deserve to lead healthy and happy lives, and that means access to high quality health care. Affordable healthcare is a basic human right. For this reason, I am a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act and the national effort to reform health care. In Congress I will work to make the ACA run efficiently and expand coverage and improve access to provide the best healthcare for Californians.
Education:
I believe that all Americans should be able to better themselves through higher education. By supporting educational access programs like the American Opportunity Tax Credit and Pell Grants, I hope to reduce the college dropout rate dramatically.
As a former school board member, I know that early education is the foundation for a successful future. I want to give all students a chance to succeed by realizing President Obama’s dream of universal preschool. I have been a persistent advocate for more funding for schools and teachers in the California legislature.
Veterans:
In Congress I will be an advocate for the brave men and women that have served our country. Honoring the service of our veterans is one of our most solemn and important responsibilities as a nation. When soldiers return from bravely serving our country on the battlefield, they should have access to good jobs and high quality healthcare. Veterans put their lives on the line for the safety of our nation and they deserve the best when they return. It is heart breaking to see so many veterans homeless or suffering from mental illness without treatment. Proper funding to veterans housing programs and the VA are a necessity to prevent these issues from spiraling out of control.
Seniors
Social Security and Medicare are promises that we have made to our seniors and Isadore Hall is committed to keeping that promise. I will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare in Congress. I believe that Social Security is a cornerstone of the American Dream. After contributing to Medicare and Social Security for their entire careers, seniors should be able to benefit from their contributions and know that they can safely retire.
Foreign Policy
I am a strong advocate of supporting our nation's allies and wants to continue to provide the funding and services necessary to support the men and women serving abroad. The United States has the unique responsibility and privilege of being the world's super power and peacekeeper, and we have the responsibility to ensure international peace, but for our nation's sake we must practice restraint, and only use our military when it is unavoidable and vital national interests are at stake.
I am a strong supporter of our relationship with Israel.
Social Justice and Equality:
I am proud to stand for civil rights and justice for all groups of people. My mother instilled in me a deep commitment to equality that has stayed with him ever since he was young.
I am an avid supporter of Women's Rights. In Congress, I will continue the work of Janice Hahn and protect a women's right to choose on all reproductive healthcare decisions from attacks by extremists in Washington. I believe a lot of work still needs to be done to ensure that women have equal access to quality education, fair pay, and equal employment opportunities. In the California legislature I supported California's "yes means yes" law, which defines consent for sexual activity and will help to protect women on college campuses. I hope to extend this standard nationally to protect all women from the national epidemic that is sexual assault.
In recent years many strides have been taken towards equality for people of all sexual identities, but we still have a long way to go for full equality. I am very proud of California's steps that we have taken for equality from legalizing gay marriage to extending greater rights to transgender individuals. I hope that California's leadership on equality for the LGBTQ community will continue to expand nationwide, and that the arc of history continues to bend toward justice on one of the most important issues of our time.
