John Renison is an entrepreneur by heart, and traditional conservative family man. He is currently Founder & CEO of Piggyback Technologies where he enables large e-commerce companies to offer on demand same-day deliveries to their customers by using innovative technologies and a distributed workforce.

John has always enjoyed starting and running businesses. In fact, by the time he was 17, he had already started working for his Mothers U.S. Customs Brokerage, Britton & Company, in which he learned the value of hard work and leadership skills. Soon afterwards, John was actively engaged within the international trade industry and business organizations as a strong advocate of the Customs Trade partnership against Terrorism and Homeland Security industry partnership programs.

In his early adulthood, John joined a border drug demand reduction initiative led by Californians for Drug Free Youth as the Bi-national Exchange Program Manager, where he demonstrated his leadership skills by bringing together a coalition of law enforcement and health officials from both sides of the border to work jointly to reduce the consumption of illicit drugs in San Diego and the Imperial Valley.

He also serves as CEO of his family business Britton & Company, which is a licensed U.S. Customs Brokerage that helps U.S. Importers and foreign manufacturers transact customs business on their behalf. John got into this line of business in 1995 right after graduating from high school. 

He enjoys serving as CEO of his family business as it has defined who he is as an entrepreneur. In early 2015, he was invited by San Diego State University as a TEDX speaker to give an inspiring talk about “how to not loose the child within” and in December 2014 John was nominated as Discover San Diego Entrepreneur of the month.

John is a past participant of the Program on Negotiation for Senior Executives a Harvard/MIT/Tufts consortium and holds a Certificate in Legal Studies from Boston University. John lives with his wife Renata and two daughters Marietta and Renata in Coronado California.

I understand the value of hard work. I am raising my family in San Diego because it is the greatest city in the world. At an early age, I joined my family owned small business and under my leadership, we have created many jobs for our community and strongly believe that government should aid innovation and advancement, not stifle it.

My experience in the on demand economy sector with the creation of my startup has helped me understand the needs of San Diego’s economy first hand. I know how to run a business and how to adapt to an ever changing world. I can lead our area the same way I have led my business, with common sense practices and real world ideas. Recently I was Discover San Diego Entrepreneur of the Month and have been an inspirational speaker on entrepreneurship. 

I understand what it will take to have California ready for the 21^st century. I know how to work around the clock to achieve real results and not be another in a long line of ineffective Sacramento politicians that are there to please special interests. I will dedicate my time and energy to making San Diego safe and successful. Most of all, I want to make sure that we have a fantastic place for my family and yours.

Biography:
My grandparents made the courageous migration west to San Diego from McMinville, Tennessee in the 1880’s. Grandfather was a “brain” surgeon as they were called in those days, versus the distinguished title of neurosurgeon today. He served during WWI in France as a medical captain.   My father received doctorate degrees in both physics and civil engineering. Studied at MIT and University of Rome. As a civilian engineer for the Italian government he was in Ethiopia overseeing the building of roads, sanitation systems, aqueducts, etc when the British came to liberate Ethiopia and kept him as prisoner until the end of WWII using his language skills, like Amharic and Swahili, for interpretation. He then joined our family in San Diego until the Marshall Plan began to rebuild Europe and Germany. He was given the task of overseeing the rebuilding of Kaiserslautern.   My mother was a classical pianist. She was being groomed to become the first female concert pianist to play at Carnegie Hall when she and my father met and she gave up her career to be with him. She was with my father in Ethiopia when he was taken prisoner. My mother was able to make a very brave trip, with her four young children, traveling by freighter from Djibouti to Bombay, and then getting passage on a passenger ship to the United States to rejoin her family in San Diego.   This is where my life in San Diego begins. Since then, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to watch San Diego grow over the years like a time elapsed photo of a flower as it blooms.   Prior to graduation from San Diego State University, with a B.A. degree, (Business Administration, History and Psychology), I served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Upon graduation my aunt, who was chair of the Marketing Department at San Diego State, stronly advised I get into banking and become a bank officer. Two years later I decided business was more attractive and challenging, which appealed to the entrepreneurial spirit. I became a franchisee owner/operator of Sambo's Family Restaurants in Old Town (now Perry's Cafe).   The owner of the Royal Inns Hotel chain, Earl Gagosian, wanted me to come over and run his flagship 24 hour restaurant, Jolly King Family Restaurant, which was located directly across from the iconic Anthony’s Seafood. It was very high volume and operated with approximately 55 employees.

As the hotel and restaurant chain expanded I was appointed V.P./Director of Operations for the 28 unit chain, and remained there until I decided to go into business for myself.   My first venture was a college pub called Andy's Saloon, located near San Diego State. It became the "go to" place for the students and Andy's was #1 in beer keg sales in San Diego at the time.  I eventually ended up owning and operating 9 various restaurant/bar/entertainment facilities. Four of them I built from scratch...yes, Mr. Obama and Elizabeth Warren..."I built that."   I exited from the hospitality business, obtained a real estate license, and specialized in Business Sales and Acquisitions for a number of years. I joined C.W. Clark, Inc, a commercial real estate company and developer of properties, and engaged in retail leasing as well as Business Sales and Acquisitions.

Over the course of my restaurant/business career I have had great enjoyment in hiring and training hundreds of young people, many for their very first job.  I watched them become mature, confident young men and women, who got the invaluable foundation for forging ahead in their chosen careers. 

I have had a very fulfilling business career. I wish to use my knowledge, experience and hard work ethic in Sacramento to help stop the damaging policies that hurt all Californians and businesses on a daily basis.

My wife, Alis, and I have been married for 25 years and have an amazingly brilliant son, Daniel,  who finds computers to be his primary passion. Alis has her doctorate from U.S.C. and I can proudly say she is the best pharmacist in town, with a caring spirit and heart of gold.
Daniel has been a participant in the Robotics International event held in St. Louis each year and he was a team member in the national finals in Maryland for Cyber Patriots.

Allow me to  begin by quoting the motto of the State Senate:

                                       "It is a Senator's duty to PROTECT the LIBERTY of THE PEOPLE"   (caps are my emphasis)

As an American I have very deep concerns as to the direction our country and state are headed in. I believe most of you, regardless of party affiliaton, share those concerns, too. It concerns me that the 26 out of 40 current State Senators who are Democrats have forsaken that oath.

Should the democrats gain one more senate seat, and 2 more assembly seats on June 7, they will have a Super Majority, basically granting them the ability to tax and spend, change the California Constitution, enact laws, etc.  without needing one single vote from Republican senators.

KEEPING JOBS AND BUSINESSES IN CALIFORNIA

According to the Sacramento Bee:  "About 5 million Californians left between 2004 and 2013. Roughly 3.9 million people came here from other states during that period, for a net population loss of more than 1 million people." Resulting in a net loss of $26 billion dollars.

Why is that? 

For the tenth year in a row California is rated  worst for its business climate, according Chief Executive Magazine.  Why is that?

Pollo Loco's CEO, Steve Sather said:   "I would not start my business in California."   (on CNBC)   EDUCATION:   California's school system in now ranked 41st in the country.        Why is that? We used to be at the top or near the top, and were the envy of the country. Common Core is not the answer for our children.   POLITICAL CORRECTNESS:   It's out of control. The recent incidents in San Diego County at UCSD, SDSU, SDSU/San Marcos, UC SYSTEM under Janet Napolitano. Ours school administrators have lost control. This is a job killer and a business killer. It is pushed by the unions. The people who will be hurt the most will be those who are low-skilled, minorities, first time job entrants...like your son or daughter. And then, you never hear mention...the business owner. The unions accuse the owners of "WAGE THEFT", as if there is a pile of cash stuffed into the safe.    THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF "INCOME INEQUALITY" IS THROUGH ECONOMIC GROWTH, AND THAT HAPPENS WHEN  PRO BUSINESS POLICIES AND REGULATIONS ARE ENACTED. GOOD PAYING JOBS ARE THE RESULT.
As stated above, California is ranked 50th...LAST...in the country for doing business in the state.   Here come the robots:     http://momentummachines.com/   ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION AND BORDER SECURITY:   I am not against LEGAL immigration, but I believe we have to stop ILLEGAL immigration. Control our borders. Implement E Verify. End sanctuary cities. Our schools, hospitals, health system, legal system, social services, courts, prisons, and housing are strained beyond financial sustainability. We cannot be a sovereign country and state if we cannot control illegal immigration. A green card/work permit is a viable solution. It was a workable solution years ago. Those who obtain a card can also apply for permanent entry into the country just as the 1.5 million immigrants have done who come to our country each year. And then start the process towards citizenship. I do not agree with Kamala Harris, our state Attorney General, who is running for the U.S. Senate and has $9.5 million in donations, large sums from union groups.  She is supposed to enforce existing laws, and yet she wants to allow illegals to have a path towards citizenship. We cannot reward those who come into the country illegally. The democrats desire the illegal vote...to sustain their power and control. That is why Assembly woman Lorena Gonzalez presented her bill AB60, which has given illegals the right to obtain a California Drivers License...which has resulted in over 800,000 licenses being issued.   SECOND AMENDMENT AND GUN RIGHTS:   Regardless of your sentiment or opinion about guns, the Second Amendment is under assault by the legislators. California has the strictest laws in the country...over 800 of them, and now in November the Lt. Governor, Gavin Newsom, has a measure on the ballot that will criminalize many honest, non threatening California citizens due to their ownership of certain firearms.  If you cherish your freedom, like free speech, or freedom of religion, which are also under assault, then it is of paramount importance that the 2nd Amendment be protected and supported as well.  There are over 800 laws on the books. Ninety percent of them will make you a felon if you violate one of them.   The lawmakers are, in reality, nullifying the Second Amendment...a loss of our freedom, our liberty.    WATER:   I give my thoughts in "Answers"   I was asking earlier....WHY IS THAT?   I hope I have made  it clear...the common thread is these problems/issues are a result of the power and control the democrats have in the legislature. The democrats have had control of the legislature since 1959, with the exception of a few years. Whether it's water, immigration, gas prices, business environment, etc. etc. the problems are a creation of the democrats.    This is why I am running for the State Senate. To do my best to reverse the course we have been on.
