Tyler Izen’s family moved to the San Fernando Valley after the untimely death of his father over 50 years ago. At the age of 11, the Izen family had their first clue to the path Tyler would follow. When his bicycle was stolen, he went into full detective mode, canvassing the area for clues, setting up surveillance, following the suspects and ultimately locating his bike a week later. With the aid of the Los Angeles Police Department, Tyler safely got his bike back, and his future in law enforcement was cemented.
After graduating from high school and working his way from licensed insurance salesperson to pension consultant in financial services, Tyler realized his boyhood dream and joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1985.
For the next three decades, he proudly served the LAPD with distinction, working patrol, vice, administrative and supervisory assignments as police officer, sergeant and later detective. He has held posts in the Department’s Metropolitan Division, Internal Affairs, Anti-Terrorism, Use of Force Investigations and with the Office of the Inspector General. Tyler’s work in law enforcement earned him numerous commendations for exemplary performance.
During his tenure with the LAPD, Tyler served as president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, representing roughly 10,000 sworn members. As president of the LAPPL, he oversaw a budget of $10.3 million and was the primary strategist for the organization’s operations and negotiations.
In 2013 Tyler had the distinction of being selected to serve on the LA 2020 Commission, headed by former U.S. Trade Representative Mickey Cantor. Here, he worked with others to develop a more sustainable future for the greater LA region. His expertise in labor practices, arbitration and police use of force issues has rendered him a sought after public speaker and consultant.
Tyler is especially proud of the work that he and his colleagues did for the Special Olympics in 2015, coordinating the security and logistics of the torch on its journey across the United States.
An actively community member, Tyler is a 25-year board member and past board chair for the Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union, former Director with the Los Angeles Police Museum, past chair of the North Valley YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Committee and former president of the El Oro PTA.
Tyler has lived in Granada Hills for close to three decades, has been happily married to wife Becky since 1989, and enjoys spending time with their three children and two granddaughters.

For too long, California has rolled out the red tape instead of the red carpet for business. It's time we enact policies in Sacramento that get government out of the way of the job creators and allows them to do their job in making California prosper again.
I am honored to have the endorsement of the California Small Business Association and of business owners throughout the district, such as Maggie Kestly, Fred Thomas, Joe Grinstead, Eric Little, Richard Perini, Daniel & Mane Berbel, and Bert Boeckmann, who all know that I will champion policies that keep jobs in our state and reward entrepreneurs for the hard work they pour into their businesses.
I want to share with you why I am running for office, and am asking that you share this video with your friends, too.
In the Assembly I will fight to keep dangerous criminals where they belong behind bars. The integral funding that we provide to our law enforcement should never be a pawn for political posturing. We must make sure that codified protections exist to secure our law enforcement’s funding. Additionally, I fully support all of our peace officers and vehemently oppose any effort to weaken the Peace Officers’ Bill of Rights.
When I am in Sacramento, I look forward to securing the funding our kids’s education deserves. Instead of punishing success by stripping schools of the funding they need to maintain their excellence, I will push legislation that rewards their achievements. I will duplicate the efforts of schools and school districts that work hard to turn around the records of failing school and districts. I want a California where parents are no longer faced with a decision to pay high private school tuition in order to avoid unsatisfactory public schools. With our schools training the future workforce, it is important that our students graduate from great schools, ready to start work on day one!
