Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • ¡Empleos!

Doug La Malfa
United States Representative, 1st Congressional District
Party Preference: Republican

America’s middle income families, workers and small businesses are struggling to make a better life. Meanwhile, our nation faces serious threats from terrorism. The values I learned growing up on the family farm are needed in Washington. I’m working hard to bring those North State values to Congress.

As your representative, I have: Passed legislation in the House of Representatives to protect north state water rights and build new water storage, including Sites Reservoir. This project means jobs and water for Northern California. Voted for significant tax reductions for Families, Small Businesses & Farms. I’m honored to be endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association. Worked to reduce debt and waste and bring balance to the federal budget. Voted to strengthen our military, increase America’s national security and help our veterans get the care they deserve. Fought to repeal Obamacare and reign in out of control federal bureaucrats such as the EPA and IRS while stopping tax-hikes on gas and families. Wrote legislation to properly designate the Tule Lake internment camp a National Historic Site. Passed a law to transfer surplus government land to a productive community use.

Government cannot and should not do everything and is a big part of the problem. Certainly, more government is not the solution. I'd be honored to receive your vote. Thank you. Please visit www.DougLaMalfa.com or call me at 530-712-3675.

Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de The League of Women Voters of California Education Fund and California Counts, a public media collaboration. (4)

The Federal Government plays a part in California water allocation and use through a variety of laws.  What, if any, legislation would you support in an effort to handle water shortages caused by the current and any future drought?
Respuesta de Jim Reed:

The Federal Government needs to invest in infrastructure, including creating aditional water storage. But the investment in infrastructure should not be limited to water storage. We need to invest in conservation, waste water reuse & recycling, and creating new sources of water such as desalination.

Should immigration laws be changed?  What changes would you support?  Please explain why.
Respuesta de Jim Reed:

We need immigration reform. First we should do a bettter job of tracking people legally entering the country but who over stay their visas. Second, we should expand legal immigration to bring people with high skills into the Country. Finally, we must address the fact that there are over 11 Million undocumented people living in the US who have established roots and have been here for a long time; if they have not committed any serious crimes and are working or otherwise contributing to society, they should pay a fine for the violation of the law, and be allowed to remain in the Country. There must be a path to enventual citizenship.

What, if anything, does the U.S. need to do in order to address national security and terrorism? Please explain your answer in detail.
Respuesta de Jim Reed:

In general, what we are doing now is suffricient but we need to work hard on developing intelligence to locate potential terrorists before they act. We also need to extricate ourselves from the Middle East conflicts as our involvement only serve as a catalyst for terrorist recruitment and terrorist acts againsat the US.

The political climate in Washington, D.C. has been extremely partisan in recent years. In that kind of atmosphere, what would you do to get things done while in office?
Respuesta de Jim Reed:

If elected, I am committed to meeting with every Congressional Representitive who will meet with me, regardless of party, in the first 100 days of office. The purpose of the meetings will be to see what middle ground can be reached and develope a relationship that will help get things done in the future.

Creencias poliza

I consider myself as a Democrat Libertarian. In most ares, Government regulation should only be used when required to stop abuse. Certainly when it comes to the economy and environment, repeated abuse requires careful regulation. In general small businesses are over-regulated and big busiensses are under-regulated.

Jim Reed
United States Representative, 1st Congressional District
Party Preference: Democratic

I am a Democrat who leans libertarian on social and international issues. I am committed to saving Social Security & Medicare.

I will fight to bring Federal funding to our District to repair and improve our crumbling infrastructure, including high speed internet which will allow our private companies to compete with other parts of the State. I know how to balance the budget and pay for these infrastructure repair costs. As a taxpayers’ advocate, I know where the tax loopholes are that give special interest groups tax rates at half of what others pay. Our corporations, making enormous profits overseas on the sale of products after getting tax breaks in the US to develop those products, should be paying tax on those profits. I also know that if we go back to having a self-sufficient military (soldiers cooking for soldiers, soldiers repairing & maintaining military equipment, etc.) instead of using high paid independent contractors, we can save billions and provide our veterans with skills they will have upon leaving military service.

We also need to solve the student debt problem and make higher education more affordable. We need to reform election finance and repeal Citizen’s United. We need a representative like myself with an engineering background who respects science and will protect the environment. We need a representative who will work for the people of the District, not just himself. We need to stop the talk & gridlock and act now.
