Questions & Answers

Water

The Federal Government plays a part in California water allocation and use through a variety of projects and laws.  What, if any, new programs or projects or reforms to existing programs and projects would you support in an effort to handle water shortages caused by the current and any future drought?

No answer provided.
Should immigration laws be changed?  What changes would you support?  Please explain why.
Answer from John Karl Fredrich:

Give citizenship to all DACA category immigrants and proceed with comprehensive immigration reform.

They deserve inclusion and we have a lot invested in them already.

Secondly, the US needs to stop causing trouble abroad, especially in Central America, so that the

refugee and internal disorder in those nations is substantially reduced.

Third, normalize relations with Cuba and end the over 50 year blockade and harrassment.

As Congress Member what, if any, policies or legislation would you support to preserve democracy for all US residents?
Answer from John Karl Fredrich:

I support Comprehensive Voter Reform along the lines of the John Lewis Act.

I support elimination of the Electral College and election to the Presidency by a majority of the popular vote.

I support campaign finance reform so that economic cartels do not control the Congress.

I believe that the filibuster in the US Senate is a gross violation of Majority Rights.

What legislation, if any, would you support to reduce American greenhouse gas production?  Please explain the reasons for your position.
Answer from John Karl Fredrich:

I would support nationalization of the fossil fuel industry as the quickest path to eliminating the unusual political power they weild so that they are able to extract massive tax expenditures from the the national treasury while at the same time destroying the biosphere. In effect, we are currently subsidizing our own demise and not allowing the marketplace to price in the damage. The time to do this is now as the value of their stocks is decreasing quickly if we are able to price in the externalities of that damage. We can use the Stateoil model of the Norwegians, and, if need be, even hire them to run the business. They have a sovereign wealth fund; we, in effect, have a sovereign debt fund (now over $30 Trillion dollars !).
