I have worked for many years on community clean ups which quickly led to me getting drafted into a Advisory Board for the City of LA. I was then asked and blessed to be elected as President of the advisory board additionally I have served on my neighborhood council for 6 years. This last year I spent a lot of time working on the anti-automation efforts in the Port of Los Angeles. I marched down Harbor Blvd to stand up and fight for our union brothers and sisters. Many community members came to my house and donated food so we could make sack lunches, so students didn’t have to cross the picket lines to eat when UTLA was on strike. When I believe in a cause or an issue, I put my heart into it and I give it everything I’ve got. This includes the Democratic Party! I found my love for the party when I started working in my community, I realized quickly that change came from legislation. Things like homelessness, health care and union labor. I have worked hard on democratic issues for many years. Recently I was elected President of the San Pedro Democratic club, I am also a founding member and VP of the Muslim Democratic Club of Southern California. During my time I have helped grow membership and engage Democrats in our community. My work has also led to me being elected as a delegate to the California Democratic Party. I currently serve as co-chair to the California Democratic Party finance committee and serve as an Executive board member. I’ve passed resolutions through the Los Angeles county and state party supporting labor. I was honored to be named Assembly District 70 female Democrat of the in 2019, I was also 2016 35^th Senate District Extraordinary Citizen of the year and 2017 Assembly District 70 Woman of Distinction.

I am a lifelong Democrat with experience working on local, state, and national initiatives for the party. I am running for the central committee because I am interested in contributing to stronger communication messaging of our party's values and mission that support fairness and equality for everyone. I am offering my formal business and professional expertise in the healthcare industry to help move healthcare access to a public offering as well as creating new jobs in the industry that will not displace those in the current health system. 

I believe our party can do better to be stronger. Voices like mine have been missing from the district, I am someone who has always been a loyal volunteer to the party but I've always maintained my private sector employment status. I'm concerned about access to homeownership for working and middle class Californians, particularly here in the 70th District, there is an emphasis on rental protections but wealth creation protections should also be a focus too. I also believe that we need to discuss issues about full health access and equity that includes mental health services with any national health plan. Along with homeownership, we must address the funding of our public schools and how the allocation of those dollars are still not funding education equally across the district.  I believe that we need to do better by our young citizens, all of them no matter where they live in the district, all schools should be offering the same opportunities. We need to have the tough discussions about how there are policies hurting our advancement here in the 21st Century, by ignoring climate change and those issues that hurt working class mobility and diversity in our district. I am a strong supporter of public schools and I believe that education opportunities are the foundation for economic mobility and I believe that I can contribute to new conversations that can link private sector discussions, entreprenuership and the creation of a green economy with a new healthcare system tied to revamping strategies for public education. 

I have an extensive background in healthcare administration working with all the major payors, hospitals, medical groups and behavioral health providers in the country, we need the party to focus on Single Payor access for citizens through an entire healthcare system that provides access to all based on the taxes we are currently paying, not new ones. Our party needs to shift away from business as usual by including individuals like me into party leadership.  I know the private sector healthcare business and I can help craft real strategies that not only provide healthcare equally for us all but help contribute to an offering that will not damage or shock our economy with job losses while reforming the healthcare system. I want to serve on the central committee and lend my expertise to not only healthcare but new ideas to elevate the working and middle classes, that our party is having trouble protecting here in the district. Our party has been doing great with social issues, it's time to truly connect the dots and get economic issues tied to our efforts as well.

I am a committed, pragmatic democratic who believes that the Community I represent not politics is paramount.  I am President of the Wrigley Area Neighborhood Association, a member of the Long Beach Community College Bond Oversight Committee and have over 30 years of verifiable accomplishments in furthering democratic principles and values that affect the quality of life in our Long Beach and San Pedro neighborhoods:

• Served on the Board of Friends of the Los Angeles River from 1995 until 2001 and was recognized by Louis McAdams as one of 35 River Champions. 
• Promoted establishing sustainability policies in the City of Long BeaCH as a member of the 2010 Strategic Planning process and served as a Sustainable City Commissioner appointed by Mayor Bob Foster
• Worked on numerous air and water quality water initiatives since the mid-1990s with our elected representatives - former Supervisor Don Knabe, former City Council members Ray Grabinski, Jenny Oropeza, and Congressman Alan Lowenthal. 
• Led the community in its efforts to form the highly successful Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy with Hilda Solice during her service as a State Senator and with Former City Councilmember Frank Colonna. 
• Recognized by former City Councilmember and Harbor Commissioner Doris Topsy Elvord for opening her eyes to the need for a Clean Air Action Plan at the Port of Long Beach in the early 1980s. 
• Served as the Community Representative on the I-710 Improvement Project  2011 through 2016  

I am a strong supporter of bipartisan efforts to accomplish democratic goals and objectives.  Through study, life experience and conversations with potentially impacted stakeholders, I present solutions that consider all viewpoints and avoid unintedned consequences without compromising my commitment to progressive ideals.  I am a strong advocated for fiscal responsibility to ensure that tax payer dollars are spent wisely.

A California Democratic Party Delegate since 2009 and a delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Carrie has unique insight and experience within the Democratic Party. She uses this to assist new delegates to navigate and effectively participate within the organization.

Carrie is Vice President of the Central San Pedro Neighborhood Council, Immediate Past President of the San Pedro Democratic Club, and Southern Regional Coordinator for the California Democratic Council. She has earned the endorsement of Congresswoman Nanette Barragán for this race and has received numerous awards for her contributions to our community. Among them are:

• Progressive Democratic Club Member of the Year (twice)
• 35^th Senate District Extraordinary Citizen Award
• LACDP Democrat of the Year
• Getty House Foundation Women’s Leadership Honoree
• LAANE Women for a New Los Angeles Honoree

Carrie is a consultant in the field of Workforce Development for organizations such as the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Community Career Development, operator of Compton and the Wilshire-Metro WorkSource Centers. In this capacity Carrie headed the Transportation Intermediary program for the City and County of Los Angeles Workforce Development Boards providing guidance on transportation and logistics jobs of the future.

She previously worked for the Center for the Commercial Deployment of Transportation Technologies (CCDoTT), a maritime research program at California State University, Long Beach; and served on the Port of Los Angeles and the I-710 Commission’s Community Advisory Committees.

Carrie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute, a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University, and has studies towards a Master in Public Administration degree from California State University, Long Beach.

I believe in bringing the Party closer to the voters.

After the catastrophe that was the 2016 Presidential election I, together with fellow CA state party Blue Revolution delegates, reviewed the Party’s bylaws and were shocked by the structural inequalities we found. Since then we have used our delegate positions to transform the Party from within to bring about more transparency and accountability. A few of our accomplishments have been:

• Elimination of the $5 donation to vote for CA Party delegates
• Parity of the vote threshold for incumbent and insurgent candidates to earn the CA Party endorsement

We continue to advocate for policies that fundamentally transform the Party so it may be more responsive to the voters, not isolate and protect elected officials. We want our elected Party leaders to be financially compensated so they do not need to rely on outside employment posing potential conflicts of interest. We want our CA Party to be led by the elected delegates and reduce the nearly 1,000 appointees of elected officials.

A time when the DMV automatic voter registration is astronomically boosting the number of NPP voters in our state it is up to the Party to prove itself worthy of membership. I feel changes like these will help restore confidence and trust in the Democratic Party, and earn more seats for Democrats at the State and local level.

I am a life-long Democrat and believe the party has helped people’s lives improve for generations, and I am driven to ensure we continue to deliver on the values we have set for ourselves. From a young age I was interested in serving the community. During my childhood I was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where I earned the highest rank in the organization, my Eagle Scout. This organization taught me leadership skills, and provided countless opportunities to give back to the local community.

I also have a long history of political experience. During college I served as an intern to Rep. Linda Sanchez in Washington D.C., where I was able to hear a wide range of personal experiences and policy innovations taking place across the country. 

Currently I serve on the board of my local synagogue, and the board of the California Young Democrats Jewish Caucus, where we work to build inclusive communities with many of the diverse cultural communities in the area. 

I am particularly interested in affordable housing and land use issues. As an entrepreneur, I started a real estate investment firm that renovates blighted properties into affordable housing in the midwestern United States. Government, like a business, has limited resources that must be utilized effectively. I can understand these tradeoffs and the long-term financial consequences of the legislation we as a party endorse and support. I hold a Bachelors from CSU Fullerton and am pursuing an MBA at UCLA. 

As a U.S. Air Force Intelligence Analyst veteran, I now apply my lifelong dedication to public service through progressive activism in our community and in the California Democratic Party. In recent years, I have:

§  Been unanimously elected and served on the board of a Democratic club as Communications Director, endorsing dozens of progressive Democrats for office across the state.

§  Joined 1,000 union nurses in storming the Capitol to lobby every single California state legislator to vote Yes on S.B.562 Medicare For All universal healthcare for every man, woman, and child in California, leading to its successful passage by the California Senate.

§  Co-authored the resolution condemning ICE which was passed by unanimous vote by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

§  Ran to serve on the Executive Board of the Progressive Caucus of the California Democratic Party.

§  Supported fantastic Democratic candidates old and new (such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez!) with hundreds of hours of the hard, unglorious work of phonebanking and knocking on doors.

I have made it my newest mission, in this time of brutal and inhumane persecution of immigrants, to stand up for the human rights and civil rights of immigrants, in this proud nation of immigrants which I so dearly love!

I am dedicated to making the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee more open and responsive to the will of the 2.8 million Democratic voters in L.A. County, and less beholden to corporate interests. I am committed to the continual renewal of the Democratic Party at all levels into an organization that is responsive to, and representative of, the human needs of all Americans.
