Biography
Jim Ash is a local San Diego businessman and twenty-year resident of San Diego. He and his wife, Carrie, moved from a small town in central California to San Diego in 1995 to finish their college education at San Diego State University. Jim graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1997. He began his career working for the global consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton as a management consultant for the U.S. Navy. In his career, Jim has been hired by some of the largest companies in the world to improve their business operations through the implementation of new, more efficient processes and cutting-edge technologies. Jim is also a small business owner, running a property rental and investment company with his brother.
Jim is a husband of twenty years, father of five children and worships at Shadow Mountain Community Church. Jim currently resides in La Mesa, but over the last twenty years he has lived throughout the 53rd District in North Park, the SDSU College Area, and Lemon Grove. He has personally experienced the many cultures, beliefs, economic struggles and issues that make up the diverse 53rd Congressional District’s population.
Like many of you, Jim has served the San Diego community through volunteer work at schools, church, little league, and political campaigns. He knows the positive impact individuals can make when they give their time, talents, and treasures to serve their local community. He now feels a calling to become a public servant to his fellow 53rd District citizens as their congressional representative.
Jim believes that one of the biggest problems with our government today is that the majority of congressional representatives are either ignorant of or are ignoring the responsibilities afforded to them by the Constitution. Instead of performing their legislative duties following the guidelines of the Constitution, they choose to make decisions based on their political party’s agenda or large donor demands. Jim vows to avoid the trap of becoming beholden to party agendas and special interests just to prolong his tenure as an elected official. When elected, he vows to self-limit his time in office to a maximum of three terms (6 years).
Our founding fathers intended for the House of Representatives to be filled with “non-office hunters” that are the “true representatives of the great American interests.” That is why they gave the power of the purse and legislation exclusively to the House. Jim’s congressional campaign aims to return our Congress to what our founders intended by electing a non-politician to temporarily step away from his personal life and career to become an impermanent Citizen Legislator. When Jim wins his election, he plans on using his experience and success to recruit hundreds of similarly-minded citizens across America to become Citizen Legislators and to help return Congress to the people.
