My name is Kenneth Mejia and I am the 25-year old running for U.S. Representative in District 34 - Los Angeles, CA.
A brief story about me. I was born and raised in Sylmar and went to school in San Fernando, a predominantly Latino neighborhood. My single mother raised me on her own. My family didn't have much growing up, but we had enough to eat, have a roof over our head, and go to school. I worked hard in school and graduated from university a month after my 20th birthday. I was able to finish university early because I would take over 21 units each semester and take classes during the Summer and Winter sessions, working hard nonstop. I ended up getting great jobs at one of the best Accounting Firms and one of the best Alternative Investment Firms in the world. The money was great, but the money was something I never really cared for.
Once I heard about Bernie Sanders, I stopped everything that I was doing and realized that for once in my lifetime, I finally see a human being that truly cares for every single person regardless of race, income, sexual orientation, gender, etc. My whole life, I've always helped people who didn't have enough, whether it was buying homeless people underneath tunnels food, buying a family at Pinkberry some dessert, paying for someone's public transportation costs, or just giving money to the homeless to get through the day. I've done these acts of kindness since I was a little kid because I understand the struggle of just trying to get by. I believe everyone deserves a chance at living a decent life, not just the privileged few.
