Homelessness:
* Enforce exisiting laws
* Maintain public areas
* Restorative Outreach
Homelessness is affecting Santa Barbara more and more. We need to increase our authoritative presence in areas where lawless behavior has created blight, develop new strategies to change the status quo, and maintain clean and safe public areas - all while working cooperatively with our existing service agencies.
Water:
* Encourage public conservation
* Expand desalination capacity
* Coordinate with other agencies
I advocated for our desalination plant and cooperative production for surrounding agencies. By supporting cooperative public outreach, we’ve proven that needed conservation can be achieved without punitive measures.
Housing:
* Encourage private investment
* Reform permit process
* Protect neighborhood sanctity
We must enable and encourage the private sector to invest in local housing and not discourage development with artificial mechanisms that attempt to create an artificial market. Thorough reform of the permitting process will be essential to ensure certainty and reliability for development applicants. More housing downtown is a desirable element and key to urban vibrancy.
State Street:
* Preserve the current vibrancy
* Create a clean, inviting atmosphere
* Develop a strategy that serves all
This is a transformative time for our downtown. The current vibrant atmosphere on State Street should be encouraged while developing the strategies to ensure that the configuration serves all needs. Aesthetics and cleanliness will be key to the reinvigoration of our downtown business corridor.
Public Safety:
* Support our personnel
* Complete new police station
* Continue community policing
Santa Barbara has public safety departments that are the envy of cities our size. Our police personnel and leadership must be recognized and supported for their creative lead and enthusiasm for community policing. National issues cannot be allowed to distract from the culture of protection and service we have created in Santa Barbara.
