Ecological Economic vs. Traditional Economic
Our campaign feels that core recommendations the Green New Deal fails to adequately address underlying systematic imbalances in the economy that our campaign feels is necessary for truly environmentally sustainable economic change. Accordingly, our campaign is currently engaging GPUS members in a series of online and in-person conversations about how to bring about such “Green System Change” while drawing on contemporary advancements in ecological economics. All policy recommendations must be frame all through an ecological-economics lens, which treats the economy as a subset of the Earth’s thermodynamic system. Focus policy goals and benchmark measurements on attaining goals such as zero waste, 100% organic food, and 100% renewable energy. We are currently developing a system of 15- and 30-year benchmarks to monitor and evaluate policies through an “Ecological Economics” framework which conceptualizes the economy within the broader framework of Earth’s biodynamic system.
