Why the Sequoia Healthcare District Exists

Summary

The services and programs administered and by the Sequoia Healthcare District.

100% of the Districts tax renenue goes to programs we operate and support.

The Sequoia Healthcare District is dedicated to the health and well-bing of 220,000 residents that live within our boundaries.  Some have ready access to the best in private medical care; others are utterly dependent on the public and charitaable health care sytems.

Sequoia Healthcare District's primany role is to fund community health services.  We make it possible for community service partners to provide health services to resident in need.  These parnters include shcools, many non-profit organizations and community cliics.  District programs consequently address a broad spectrum of community health issues.

Programs the we support serve thousands of residents each year, many of them are amoung the most vulnerable,  aged, youth and the unisured and under-insured individuals and families.

The district also operates its own health related programs.  Our signature HeartSafe Program has financed life-savingn equipment at more than 340 locations within our District.  The equipment includes Automated External Defibrilators and Lucal Devices, which are used for sudden cardiac arrest.  They have saved many lives.  Additionally, we have provided CPR training or arranced for training of thoughsands of our residents.

The Live Well workshop is a 7 week program designed to teach and promote healthy living choices, also, it teaches those living with chronic conditions management techniques with the goal of maintaing independence.

Our Healthy Schools Initiative invests and average of 3 million dollars annually to help fund addition school nurses, counselors, physical education coaches and wellnes coordinators ot all our 28,000 public school students.

The District through our Caring Community Program provides funding to 501 (3)c organizations.  This year 2.1 million dollars was given to these charitable organization for health services.

The District createda unique Redgitered Nursing Education program.  A partnership was formed between Canada Colldge, San Francisco State University and Sequoia Hospita to address the registed nurses shortage.  Since its' inception more than 400 students became registered nurses and many graduates continue to work locally.

The District initiated a partnership with Samaritan House to open and manage a Free Health Clinic.  This Clinic,, is currently operated with volunteer physicians, dentists, nurses and other staff.  They provide primary and specialty medical, dental and vision care to low incloe and uninsured individuals.

Without the District all these program would not exist and the tax dollars would go into a general fund with no garantee that the tax revenue be used for health services.
