Debbie has been active in her community for over 24 years. In 1990, Debbie received a notice from the County of Riverside that the property across the street was going to be rezoned to allow industrial land uses. It was at that moment that started Debbie on a path of organizing others to protect the rural lifestyle of her community by attending the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors meetings for the first time.
Debbie started working closely with other members of the community and organized the first 4th of July Parade and Picnic. Debbie was chairperson for the 4th of July Parade and Picnic which continued to be a successful event for 10 years having yearly attendance of over 3,000 local residents.
In 1994, Debbie worked to create the Mead Valley Community Plan and Trails System which was adopted in 1995. The Mead Valley Community Plan and Trails System also established and preserved hundreds of miles of trails throughout the Mead Valley community connecting with the Riverside County Regional Trails system.
In 2003, Debbie volunteered on the Riverside County/City Arroyo Committee in GIS mapping for the project study guide. Debbie worked with Riverside County Planning as a member of the Riverside County City Arroyo Committee Land Use Subcommittee in setting County land use policy to protect arroyos, streams, hills and water courses in the Riverside County general plan.
In 2004, as a student at UCR, Debbie joined the staff of Supervisor Bob Buster and Senator Jim Battin as a Legislative Intern.
In 2008, Debbie joined the staff of Riverside County Supervisor Buster as a Legislative Assistant gaining valuable experience working directly with a number of Riverside County Departments such as Sheriff, Fire, Office on Aging, Planning, Transportation, Building & Safety, Environmental Health, Veterans Affairs, Parks and Open Space. Most importantly was the 5 years of knowledge gained by working directly with residents of the 1st District in resolving their concerns.
