There are many angles to address an issue and negotiation is only one part of it. In this scenario proactiveness and visualization were key to the amount of damage this would cause to our community as a whole. We always have to be prepared or find a solution before we are stuck trying to undo a bigger problem. Calling an urgent meeting with a 72 hr time frame to resolve the issue would've been my suggestion if the contract allowed it.

As a professional in the real estate industry, I believe there are other possible avenues to be explored here. I don't believe my initial option would be to implement rent control. There's an active issue between landlords and tenants in the west side of Chula Vista and I would suggest primarily the option to go through a mediation process in which the landlord would be responsible for hiring and/or servicing to facilitate and avoid any emotionally driven communication between landlord and tenants in the case that both parties have not been able to reach an agreement. I would still strongly encourage the landlord to accept responsibility in addressing and providing an alternative solution. However, rent control seems like an imminent outcome if we do not start generating more revenue through businesses and tourism.

I believe the best way to resolve or agree on important topics is the will to listen and understand different points of views. In order for me to fully support a community led- surveillance board, I would have to interview the panel and know more of the individuals' concerns. My concern here is the safety of those community members as the public might not necessarily agree with the need for additional surveillance and may create more conflicts between the public. If this is with the effort of regulating the type of surveillance that is being conducted by authorities, then I think it's a great safety net that ensures no rights of civilians are being compromised.

I am a people's person and I encourage direct communication by any means possible. I use social media as my communication platform because it is important to stay relevant and reach as many people with a proper message. Becoming a public figure, having a friendly and welcoming demeanor is important for the public to feel comfortable to reach out and express themselves and their concerns.

Understanding people's stories allows for people to feel validated and respected. I think police officers have a responsibility to gain the respect and the trust of the people they serve and they should have an interest in doing that themselves for their own wellbeing and for protection. However, I also believe the public has the responsibility to recognize the risks police officers put themselves through each day and support their safety as they would with any other community member. Immigrant communities need involvement and I would find a way to cater to their interests in a safe way to bridge the relationship between them and police officers.
