My Top 3 Priorities

  • Alternatives to 911: Not every solution can be solved with a badge and gun. We need social workers, nurses, and mental health professionals available when our community is in crisis.
  • Youth investment: Community safety improves when we invest in community resources, services, and enrichment opportunities for our youth.
  • Improve the environment: South Sacramento has some of the worst air quality in the state, high rates of respiratory illness, and low infant birth weights. We need bold enviornmental funding and policy change to chart a new course for South Sacramento

Experience

Biography

Duke is a graduate of Sacramento State University, recieving  a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and a Performing Arts Degree in Dance. Upon graduation, he began his career in public service.

His early legislative roles within the California Assembly and Senate allowed him to influence solutions for issues ranging from disability rights, to fair wages for inmate firefighters and other workers.

Duke lives in South Sacramento with his partner and daughter. He works as an Environmental Advocate, fighting for greater funding to support the environment and combat climate change.

Within the broader community, Duke serves as an Equity Advisor for Public Health Advocates (PHA) - working with cities across California to organize, advocate, and reform 911 response systems toward care-centered services.

Duke is also in his last year of a Juris Doctorate (J.D.)  program at McGeorge School of Law.
