My Top 3 Priorities

  • Crime and homelessness. On crime, I will fight for common sense public safety legislation that prioritizes families and law enforcement over criminals. On homelessness, I plan to push for a full audit of homelessness spending in California.
  • Cost of living and inflation. The cost of living has made it increasingly hard to buy a home and raise a family in California. I will work to suspend the gas tax, reduce inflation, and increase the housing supply to make Califonria affordable again.
  • Education. Our state currently has the worst literacy rate in the country and many of our 8th graders are testing at 5th grade levels. I will work to shake up the education establishment by supporting needed reforms and school choice.

Experience

Biography

Josh Hoover is a candidate for the California State Assembly. A long-time Folsom resident, his family moved to the area from the Central Valley in 1999.

Josh serves as the Chief of Staff for California State Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, developing the Assemblyman’s annual legislative agenda and advising him on education issues. Throughout his time in the State Legislature, Josh has worked to put families first through his work to reform education, provide school choice, keep our neighborhoods safe, and make California more affordable.

As a school board member in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD), Josh led the fight to reopen schools in his community. As a result, FCUSD was the first district in Sacramento County to bring students back for in-person instruction. He also worked to balance the budget, protect taxpayers, expand mental health services, support school police officers, and improve student achievement.

As the father of a child on the autism spectrum, Josh cares deeply about the integration and outcomes of kids with special needs. For his work advocating for students throughout the pandemic, he was named Folsom’s Young Professional of the Year in 2020.

Josh earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and public policy from UCLA and a master’s degree in public administration from USC. He lives in Folsom with his wife Nicole and their three children Ayden, Addison, and Austin.
