Biography

I was born and raised in a small town in Northern California. My work experiences for the past 27 years are in Fire Fighting, Emergency Medical Care, Mental Health Care, Real Estate, and 1 year of Paralegal studies. These jobs have taught me how to help others and how to address issues in our communities in a responsible and competent manner. During my time as a Realtor, I discovered that the majority of the people I met could not afford to buy a home. This led to my interest to run for a special election for a city council member seat to bring my voice to the local governing body. I am mindful of all of the challenges and current issues we must address. I am also committed to being a positive and helpful leader representing Californians.

Higher education

The Lieutenant Governor sits on the UC Board of Regents and the CSU Board of Trustees.  What are your ideas for the future of higher education in California public universities and colleges?

No answer provided.
The Lt. Governor is chairman of the Commission for Economic Development.  What would you do in that role to try to improve the economies of the poorest parts of California?
Answer from Clint W. Saunders:

Let me reiterate two of my points from my previous paragraph regarding measuring my success in office. The two points are when businesses return to California and entrepreneurs start new businesses because the operating costs of businesses are lower in California. This includes fewer regulations and lower taxes at the city, county, and state levels for permits, business licenses, sales taxes, business taxes, employee taxes, etc... When businesses can afford to operate, this will help all businesses in all parts of California be able to afford to hire more people and pay their employees a better wage. In the long run, this will help single parents working 2 or more jobs, this will help families be able to work 40 hrs a week at 1 job and have time with their kids’ school, sports, and family time. The second part is addressing inflation appropriately to prevent inflation in the price of food, gas, utilities, etc…

What are your benchmarks for measuring your success in this office?
Answer from Clint W. Saunders:

My benchmark to measure my successful actions in the office is when I see the majority of homeless rebuilding their lives or living in a facility and off the streets in our cities, businesses returning to California, entrepreneurs starting new businesses because they can afford to operate a business in California now and in the future, schools teaching the entire history of the United States, highschools including classes on civics, banking, homeownership, and managing personal finances.

Political Philosophy

Studying the history of America and understanding the determination of the forefathers who escaped a tyrannical government to a new land where they were able to see a peaceful future is the foundation of the principles of America today. Their discovery of a new land of hopes and dreams was exactly what they had envisioned in comparison to their experience with a large and overreaching government. In developing this new land of freedom, their ingenuity to create a written law of the land known as the U.S. Constitution was to guarantee a government just big enough to protect its citizens from foreign and domestic enemies, and the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I use the U.S. Constitution in its entirety as a theory to define my principles, laws to define my actions with others in collaboration, and to uphold my values and honor to be a positive leader as Lieutenant Governor of the State of California.
