Biography

Shasta County is the place my family and I call home. I care about the health of our community and spend my personal time giving back to it. I’ve served on nonprofit boards including Girls, Inc of the Northern Sacramento Valley; been involved with local coalitions like Reach Higher Shasta and the Shasta Early Literacy Partnership; and served on the Chrysalis Charter School Board from 2011 – 2017. And I've been honored to serve as an appointed Trustee to the Shasta County Board of Education since April 2020.

The majority of my career has been spent, in one way or another, engaged in and leading efforts to build and improve the overall health of children and families in Shasta County. I’ve been involved locally in efforts to reduce adverse childhood experiences, prevent chronic disease by improving nutrition and physical activity and preventing tobacco use, eliminate perinatal substance use, improve oral health, strengthen social-emotional development, build early literacy skills and prepare children for kindergarten, the school years, and their careers.

Academic achievement and educational attainment are undeniably linked with the lifelong health and wellness of a community. Over the years, I’ve become especially interested in improving educational outcomes as a means to improve community health and prevent chronic disease. This commitment and passion are what make me qualified to continue my service on the Shasta County Board of Education.

As an appointed incumbent, I understand the role and scope of the County Board of Education as the governing board for the schools and programs operated by the Shasta County Office of Education. I’ve been honored to share my knowledge, experience and voice with the County Superintendent, County Office of Education staff, and members of the County Board of Education.

I believe in the power of education to transform the lives of individual students and the health of community. I want to continue serving our community and doing my part to ensure all Shasta County children continue to have access to high quality education and innovative opportunities that improve outcomes for everyone.
